WOW, sweet boa, I would be scared to see the price tag on it lol.

There was one at the Kansas City reptile show this weekend priced at $10,000.

Well... Albinos dropped at just under that price when Sharp released them :) I got some shortly after that and assure you I recooped all my costs and some with the first birth. People say that reptiles aren't an investment, but that would be an investment quality boa for sure.

I can tell you that if there is a "True" leucistic boa available in the states, it is not selling for $10k, that is too cheap. There are established boa morphs going for $15k as we speak, and I personally know some big breeders willing to shell out $25k for one. It is my understanding that one exists, and there could be more than one...but not available for $10,000....

As far as investing in reptiles is concerned, honestly it is almost as good as having money in the bank, with the exception of being able to handle and enjoy it. My wife and I spent probably $35,000-$40,000 on our boa constrictor morphs over a period of 6 years. When we finally cashed out we got a lot of that back, and that was with being unsuccesful at breeding. Had we have had just one good season when we were at our peak, we could have easily produced $100k in boa morph babies.

That's what makes this so fun!

I dont know, never would pay that kind of money for a herp. Your better off waiting, just like any new morph, the prices will drop after more people start breeding them. Look at corn morphs, when they first came out years back, I heard of them going for like $30,000, now must all corn morphs are no more then $200,most being less. Of course if I was rich and $10,000 was nothing, then it would be a different story lol..

It honestly is an investment I think... You have to spend money to make money that applies in all businesses. Its the same thing with dogs I love all dogs but I wouldn't spend $1500 on a Corgie or Pure-Bred G-Shepard. I do believe that there is an investment and even if you are doing it for the hobby exploring new morphs is so rewarding, For example this Leucistic Boa, if this is a recessive morph which I hope it is it could keep its value of $10,000-$100,000 or whatever for alot longer then a Salmon Boa being a Co-Dom morph. I personally love herps because of their sheer fascination but lets be honest don't you guys who breed herps eventually want to make your money back or at least break even while doing what you love? Now if you dont expect much thats fine but I would atleast think you would want to recuperate some of the money you spent on feeders, heating, caging, labor, geckos, snakes, beardies, whatever. I mean whether its in 10 months or in 10 years I would hope you guys want to try to break even or even make a little money to treat yourselves. Just my 2 cents :)

Tell that to the people that bought the first Albino Burm. I believe the price tag on that animal was 150K!!!! Then tell that to thepeople that bought the first few Banana Ball Pythons.

To invest into a morph at the biggining has it's perks! Believe me. lol

Been a while since I post on here, this snake and rumored to be 3 of them are in Brazil. As for the price tag, I offered the zoo $20,000 when the 1st reports came in, I did not even get a responce...lol

Later I heard some had offered between $40k-$100k and were turned down. Rumors are, some have offered as much as $200k-$250k, and there are some rumors that one was sold and is in the US.

Lots of rumors...lol

I guess but im not in this hobby to make money. I love these animals and this is my passion. But to each their own :)

I'm in this hobby (geckos and bps) for the love first, if I can break even that would be nice. Now if I could actually do it for a sole income and nothing else that would be even better. I've spent over 15k on just purchasing BPs alone this year, and sure I'd like to make some of that money back. We all know there is no guarantee of making money especially when working with animals. So I look at it this way. I've worked hard and I've earned some money, I pay my bills, and I spend time with my kids, I deserve to indulge into what makes me happy, and caring for my animals always makes me happy. If I produce any BPs this coming season I will be more excited that I did it, than what morphs I may produce. It's that pride that many of us enjoy, and if we can make a little money doing it at the same time, why not? We aren't going to be rich breeding reptiles and I think most of us know that.
