So I'm looking into breeding leos in the future for fun (not really for money, all the money I make off them will be used to continue breeding projects) and while doing some research I read on a site that before you breed make shure there's a market for them were you live and I didn't want craiglist to be my market because I looked on there and there are a lot of people trying to sell very unhealthy geckos that they say are "in great condition" and they sell them within a few hours and I don't want customers that have no clue how to care for leos buying them as a cheap present for there 4 yearolds birthday, so I was going to take them to a few shows and try to sell them there, so I looked up the price of a table for a Repticon show and it said that all vendors selling live animals must have proper licensing, so my question is do you need one for leopard geckos and/or where do you get one and how much does it cost?

I am not sure of the laws in all the states but most shows will require a sellers permit/vending license. In California it is free to get the permit but it will then have you listed for taxes to be paid on all transactions made during the shows. Most states will gladly give you a free permit if it means you are taxed on sales.

I know in Missouri as long as its a hobby and you arent rely making money you can get by with out a license. It really is based on how much revenue you are taking in. Most states have a provision for "hobbiest" but you have to check. Its really no different then selling a puppy, dont need a license for that.

Some states have pretty strict laws about animal imports. If you're crossing state lines to sell you might want to double check with breeders or show organizers what the regulations are where you're headed.
