On another forum some where, a guy claims to be sitting on melanistic leopard gecko eggs... LOL

I tried to explain that true melanistics do NOT exist in leos yet but he seems to believe there are and he has melanistic neonates in those eggs he is waiting on...

The funny thing is he tells me to come bring my punk arse here to geckoforums and "tell all you breeders" (most of which I have grown to know and love over the past, what, 8 or more years) that there are no such thing a true melanistic leopard geckos... So....

There is no such thing as a melanistic leopard gecko!!!

Do all you breeders agree???

I have not been around in a while... How are you all doing... Hope your breeding season is going well...

I know yours is PaulNJ... I may need to go over the bridge and get some of those sweet enigmas you have been mass producing... LOL...

Gregg is no slouch in the reptile community ;)

I do believe you are correct as to none being ANNOUNCED as geneticly Melanistic. Lotta's Blackvelvets are as far as anyone has shown advancement in that realm.

Ok even if the BVs come out in the next year or two SOLID black will they really be melanistic or are they just a line bred black gecko?
But I agree with Gregg.....no such thing........YET!!

I don't agree that there are True Genetic Melanistics. I think what we are calling Melanistics would be closer to what Leopard Geckos look like in the wild! This should be fun :)

I agree. The BV's got white on bellies and inside legs. I prefer calling them HYPER melanistic to be correct. If they turn all black in a few years it will be line bred from the look they have today. I don't know if they are recessive but I know for sure they are not co-dom. And I know a lot of recessive morphs how is line bred. True Melanistic Leos doesn't exsist.

I want to show some pics.
I know I'm to honest when I show you everything, no secrets in my house ;), but I don't want to lie and hide the truth. This is Blackie (Black Velvet). The first picture in daylight with white background, (with out flash) with a light reduced picture to the right.
The second picture is with using flash to a black background. You can see there is a very big different between those pics.
By using the flash the pic shows us her pattern and the brownish colour we can't see in the first picture, but it also make her more brownish then she is in reality. Its very hard to get a picture with true colours on black animals.

My wish is that all breeders can show their leos in different lights to show differential in colors ;)
