In response to Nick (?):

We do not advertise any of our animals with Pastel except for the normal Pastels. We do not raise the price for them, they sold for $25 each. It's just so the buyer knows, if they are familiar with Pastel, that the animal carries the gene.

Pastel Snows aren't necessarily all that yellow, so I do not understand what you mean by your comment. We had a Mack Snow Pastel that was very high white, and he didn't get sold because of any marketing about being Pastel, he got sold for being a nice Mack Snow. Like I said before, we do not advertise our Snows as Pastel snows, simply because you can't always be sure without breeding them (unless you have Pastel X Pastel, which produces 100% Pastel) and there's no need to change the price because of it. It's just like Mike said, I'm more than satisfied with letting my geckos speak for themselves as well ;)

If someone out there is making more money by putting the name "Pastel" on their site and raising the prices for the animals listed; then yes, that isn't right. But as far as using marketing ploys to make more money, people do that all of the time in this business. Nothing new there.

Jess I wasn’t aiming this comment at any particular person, so please don’t take it as such. I was simply saying that this is how I suspect this name came along, and as you said marketing ploys are common…

Nick - sorry, my mistake.
I was just saying that we don't do that, and that doesn't mean that other people don't. I definitely don't agree with raising the price just because an animal is Pastel.

Out of curiousity to everyone in this thread, can someone explain how the Genetics of the Mack Pastel work as compared to the Classic Pastel Morph that is about 10 years old.

Years ago there was a morph we called a 'pastel', and recognized it as a true morph. They were characterized by their very pale yellow and lavender coloration, with little contrast from their dark markings, which were somewhat faded-looking. Just think of a gecko that has all the colors of a baby blanket, and that would be what a 'pastel' looked like. (Somewhere in all my years of photo archives, I have a few pics of what they looked like, but will have to hunt them down...)

I have crossed "mack pastels" into my SHTCTBs and it did nothing... Never bred true...
I also bred SHTCTB "mack pastels" from my creamsicle projects and again, it did not breed true for me... This is what formed my opinion on the mack pastel not being a true morph... These are just my conclusions though...

Anyway, all the geckos shown in this thread are AWESOME... And I look foward to Marcia diggin up those old photos... Would be nice to see those "pre-mack" pastels...

Would she be a pastel?

I think she looks similar to what you're discussing.

Bella was sold to me simply as a Snow (no line bread, no mack, etc...) by a guy that takes very good care of critters, but doesn't know that much about morphs, so I don't know her exact genetics for starters. She does have those lovely gray eyes and funny baby-ish face, so I do know she's some kind of Snow at least. Would she be a pastel? a bell?...

Looks like a normal to me.
