I was outside playing around with my macro lense and saw this thing fluttering around and it landed on that leaf. I can't believe I got this shot, could have been better, but I only had once chance because it took off as soon as took this pic. Now mind you this thing is smaller than 1/2cm. I've been looking all over the internet and could not find the species or actual size, but did find that most are about 1/4cm.

This is resized to 20% of the original image size so that it fits on the screen.

Wow, thats cool. And it still looks small, lol.

Thank you! If I cropped it and kept the gnat at the size the macro made, it would be 5 times bigger that what you see now. I resized that image down to 20%. ;)

Sweet! I have a similar picture.

Thank you!!

National Geographic? :)

LOL

What kind of equip do you have?

Canon XTi with a Tamron macro (http://www.tamron.com/lenses/prod/90mm.asp)

Wow! Now that's a Million Dollar Shot! It does look like something you'd see in National Geographic. I had no idea gnats were so colorful! Wonderful shot! <3

Thank you!!

Now that both my batteries for the camera are fully charged I'm going to be going out to play around with the macro and maybe some with the plain ole every day lens.

flys are a nuisance to shoot, really want to get a hoverfly mid-air, however they seem to know the moment you've focused in on them, as they choose precisely that moment to fly off.

thiw as a bigger fly(about 1cm) though its cropped from the original file to show more of the eye.
