Making clear hides, um... not clear

I was wanting to make my humid hides, clear plastic container, clear. To make them feel more secure, and so that they realize they can't walk through the hide.

I thought of black silicone but that could get messy. I thought of duct tape but I'm not sure if that is safe, the adhesive anyway. The only other thing I can think of would be to get a strip of plastic that is the circumference of the hide, inside or out.

Can anyone think of anything else I could try?

I spray paint my clear hides black then seal with a water proof acyrlic spray. It's non-toxic, and keeps things nice and dark.

I like the paint idea because I could paint the top of the hide, but it is a little more effort than I wanted to put into it. I'm very handy but I'm lazy atm. Lots of school work..... Although I do like this idea best. Maybe after my tests next week I will feel more motivated.

Duct tape = simple, easy, no cost (I have gorilla tape:main_thumbsup:)

The fake leaves would look cool and I do have a hot glue gun...

I made the hides top entry btw

i like using hot glue b/c its non toxic to the leos and dries super fast! and it can be soaked in hot water and be okay when you sanitize the hide later on. the only bad part is...i have a tendency to glue and burn my fingers! XD

I took real rocks (like half inch stones), boiled them (since i took them from outside), then used silicone to stick them to the containers, mine were actually already not clear but it would certainly work on a clear container as well. It takes a little time but i thought it was a cheap easy way to get something that looks a little better then plastic containers.

I use the blue top containers, filled with sphagnum moss, they tend to kick it around and usually block the side facing the front of the tub. Doesn't seem to bother them at all.

I would go wit black or brown silicone. it can get a little messy but thats the fun. the good part about silicone is there are options. Wile it is still tacky /wet you can texture it make it smooth or make it ruff you could leave it plain or wile its still wet you can add coco fiber, sand, stones or anything else you want to add to it and once it cures it is totaly safe for the geckos. water proof rubber. I and many others have done this for backgrounds for years with no ill effects to reptiles or amphibians.

Originally I wanted to do silicone and sand. Not only to darken the hide but as something for them to rub against when they are shedding. Right now I only have plastic hides and they try very hard to shed but just end up tipping everything over in the process. They do shed it just seems like they have to work at it a little harder.

I am just using a margarine container right now, but I was thinking of buying some clay and molding it over it but keeping it removable.
