I dont ever do more than a 1.4 (male to female). You can do more but I find that its usually too hard on the male and its an excuse to own more geckos.
I take it you asking for breeding and not keeping them in the same tanks. I don't think that there really is a set minimum. For anyone to think that a single male could only breed 4-8 females a year then your kidding yourself. That's like saying a human male could only have sex once every couple months or it would put too much stress on him. I guarantee a male could breed double or triple that amount and be perfectly fine. All it takes it one good lock up and you have fertile eggs. Keeping a male with a female a couple days and then giving him a week off would suffice. That's a lot of potential pairings you could do.
I think there are more important questions to be asking when trying to figure out what ratio you want. How big do you want your projects? How many related offspring do you want? It's all up to an individuals own preference, space, and future plans. I prefer 1:1 or 1:2 because of my limited space and it minimizes the amount of hatchlings that are related.
Yes I mean for breeding After an incident with housing 2 of my geckos together they are now all in their own seperate tubs. The reason I ask is I am going to be working on a project that I have only found one male for but have 6 females. I have the space for a large amount of hatchlings so that is not a worry. I just dont want to stress the male too much lol
haha I think I will do what Justin has suggested and give him a break between every couple females and see how it goes. If he is showing stress after 4 I will stop. I will just make sure I pair him with the 4 most important females.
Oh come on are we really worrying about a male having too much sex!!! LMAO this thread made me chuckle!!! That would be a sight...the female biting the male saying get the F up and make me some babies!!!!!!
