last night i was trying to sleep and i heard a argument in my gecko tank. ( i have 2 mack snow eclipses) i see the male wiggling his tail and biting the females belly and tail base. i slapped the male on the head and went back to sleep. tonight i have been watching the male and hes tried to plant the female 3 times. the female is starting to get irritated and bites back. im not sure if shes ovulating. but i have separated the male and thinking of introducing the male once a week. do you guys have any suggestions? or how i can force ovulation? i want to breed these 2 eclipses which is why they were given to me in the first place. fyi the female is only 60 grams and about 8 months old. thanks again Amy

That's how the breed take a good head bite and jump on, why would you smack him for doing what you want him to do?

You slapped him on the head and went back to sleep? Why wouldn't you just seperate them if you don't want them to mate (which is clearly what he was tryig to do)

i seperated because the females not ovulating. i heard if shes not ovulating then theres no point into keeping them housed together. and the female was getting irrated and started to fight back

You have a couple of choices. If the female rejects him and he backs off, then it's likely you can leave them together. That's my situation. I have 4 males, each with 1-2 females (they will all have 1-2 females when the new breeders get old enough) who spend the breeding season together in groups. I think I've only had to separate geckos twice in 8 years. Your other choice is to separate them (especially if the male can't take "no" for an answer) until you're sure the female is ovulating.

I have plenty of friends thanks, and I dont hit my geckos.

Completely right! I don't think you should be breeding if you're going to mistreat your animals. It doesn't seem like you know what you're doing Dissident. Katie is an avid helper on these forums and is just being realistic. It doesn't take much sense to realize you shouldn't smack an animal on the head-- in fact, you shouldn't even pet a leo on the head. You really need to research before you get into something as complicated as breeding.

I know sometimes someone's post can rouse strong feelings. In my opinion, it's best if the strong feelings don't get expressed in strong language. I would respond better to "I don't think someone should . . ." than "that was a terrible thing you did". Just adding words like "I think" (even if you're sure), "possibly", "it's likely", "maybe" can make the person that's being responded to possibly listen and learn, rather than get defensive and upset.
I have to say that not only do I occasionally rub my geckos on the head (and they push back against my hand, rather than moving away), but I have also had to intervene rather strongly when one of my geckos had its teeth in another (most recently my male and female garg).

I don't think my words were mean, just honest, realistic, and explained. If someone doesn't know the breeding patterns of an animal, they shouldn't breed them. As to housing them together the op should have known there may be problems, how to fix them, and especially what they were doing knowing they had an opposite sex pair together.

I would suggest you do a considerable amount of research before you let them breed. You seem to be very misinformed on the breeding of leos.

I agree with Leezard. Your geckos will live 15-20 years if taken care of properly, so there is no excuse for rushing it when you don't know what you're doing. You're just putting both of your geckos at risk by doing so.

Yah geckos kinda breed like rabbits. Mating season can last all year round and if the female isn't receptive he'll just stress her out. Only way to make him not stress her out and potentially hurt her is to separate them forever.

PS I believe this is a troll. At the very least he has not bothered to read or is ignoring forum rules. Obnoxious.
