Marcia what happened could happen to anyone of us. But, it also could have been alot worse. I think by you sharing this with everybody it may help somebody avoid this in the future. Your expertise in gecko care is something that has helped everyone here. Keep your head up we all need you here!!

We're very sorry to hear of your misfortune but glad that things are starting to improve. It's human nature to beat yourself up even knowing that you have only the best intentions for your animals, as we all do. Take care of yourself first (he says as the worms get $5 a pound gutload and fresh veggies while he scarfs down a slice of pizza in a hurry to finish cleaning and feeding).

Wow I am very sorry about what happened. As any one stated anything like that could happened to any of us. I don't know what you are going threw but I have gone threw that much stress before over my geckos. I had two geckos get very ill very fast. They were my very first geckos and they made me fall in love with reptiles. After waiting a year I got a few more leos and before I knew it my babies were sick. I rushed them to a vet and got all the meds. And was told if this doesn't work it may be crypto and we will have to put them down. Right then and there I felt as if someone had ripped my heart out and was tearing it in pieces in front of my face. I loved them, they were my babies. I gave them their meds everynight. The first few nights were very rough. After that I realized they were getting better and every gram they gained was one step to being 100. Its now June, this happened in March. And both struggle to get back to their normal weight. I have since put them back together after getting a clean bill of health. They were sisters, been together since they hatched, and even seperating didn't keep them apart they still knew the other was in the tank next to them and laid as close as possible to the other. But I just couldn't believe it. I wanted to give up so bad. Sell all my geckos but those two. But then I realized I just had to take it as a learning experince. I am so sorry I hope they all pull threw!

Sorry for your loss. I'm glad that it wasn't a fire like I first thought. I have heard of others losing whole collections and even houses to fires that originated from malfunctioning reptile heating.

It could have happened to anyone so I don't see how anyone could put you down for this. At least your putting a great effort into saving the babies, a lot of people would have just euthanized them and never said a word to anyone.

Marcia, plz plz plz do not beat yourself up about this. Things happen, its life. I am sorry for your lost. But you must move on. You have helped us all SOO much as I type one of my geckos is being saved by your slurry recipe. Thank you Marcia, thank you. God forbid one of these little ones never fully recover and it is hard to place them in homes I will be happy to open my house to one.

God be with you and your geckos, God Bless.

Oh goodness...that's so sad. I'm sorry :(

I do have a question though...

Was there someone watching them for the week while you were gone? If so, it's sad (in the tragic way; not them being negligent) that they didn't catch it. It's just one of those freak things that happens :(

I was here moving all the racks all day, and after taking a break found that one of the temperature controller probes had come loose from under the tape. It happened during the moving of the rack.
