Market demand

What is the relative market demand for AFTs and AFT morphs?

Does demand outstrip supply? It seems like many breeders aren't offering until next year, but that may just be due to waiting for the final products of specific morph breeding projects. Getting normals/striped/banded/amels/hets doesn't seem particularly difficult and prices vary by large amounts for amels, with some breeders charging three times as much for what I guess they believe are superior examples of the given morph.

The white socks, zero, and a few other morphs tend to catch my eye. I look forward to future AFT morph developments.

Just curious.

i dont have any hard numbers, and ive never heard any, and ive spent way too much time lookin up fattys on the net.

that said, i bet some of the cheap amels you find on kingsnake are just as good a color as the expensive ones you get from the big time breeders. although i bet the big time breeders do have better looking geckos, on average.

and yes, it does seem like many breeders are not offering till next year. i think that may be in part becuase fattys are experiencing a surge in popularity, and also becuase there are all those new morphs being developed right now.

however, if you look at the kingsnake classified right now, you will see plenty of fattys for sale. good luck.

When I first started looking at Amels-they were still new and I could not afford them
They were over $500

I was very fortunate to get 3 lovely Amels at very decent prices over the past few years and now of course I have my eye on the new morphs

I dare say that it will be a few years before I can afford any of them but it sure is fun looking
:main_yes:

Just an additional bit of info-some of the normals being sold are still imports and would be cheaper than CB ones

I would have to disagree strongly about the amel comment and the prices. The price varies because of the color/quality of the animal. Now some prices are low just because a breeder wants to move them quicker. But the more expensive amels from the private breeders in more cases then not will be extremely good quality and color. private breeders strive every year to get better color and genetics in their stock. This obviously means a nicer animal is more expensive.
And yes fatties are seeing a huge suge and many are holding back more to meet the demand in future years. I know I did that with our fatties collection.
So i think it simply comes down to, you get what you pay for. If you buy a $100 baby amel, dont expect that it will be radiant orange. You might get lucky, but make sure you research you options before buying. Its the same thing in the leo market, A nice animal will always be more expensive plan and simple.
On a last note buy starting your collection with nicer animals, will in turn "pay off" in that your stock is better and the demand for nice animals is always high, now matter whats out there.
Just my 2 cents, but hopes this helps.:main_thumbsup:

well i must admit ive never seen a vibrant orange amel irl.

but, what you say does make sense.

Check out albeys fattails on his page, if you dont see vibrant you need to fix your monitor...lol Not to mention there are alot of breeders working with stunning amels.

I don't know much about the market in general. I do know that last summer when I was selling some of my leopard geckos to a reputable pet store, they mentioned how often people come in looking for fat tails and that they wish they could provide some. So now I have a pair (male stripe and female normal) and have gotten 4 eggs, though none has made it past 2 weeks. We'll see . . .
