Mealies dying

So when I leave my mealies in my cage I drop them in my dish, well most of them climb out and crawl randomly through the cage but some stay in the dish, but by the next day they are dead in the dish, even if I turn the light out. How do I prolong their life or at least their wiggle. Also does any one out there have any homemade mealie dishes I will get a legit one next time I get to the pet store but I need something that they cant climb out of for now.

Also in an effort to make less threads I will just ask this here, what are the night time temps supposed to be. I ask because I wake up and the hot side, and probably the whole tank is at 74 degrees. Is that good or should I leave a heat source on. If so should I use my 50watt or UTH.

I've got a tea light holder that I purchased at Wal Mart that I'm using for a mealworm dish. They definitely can't climb out of it, it isn't too high, and the worms are visible from the outside because it's clear. I'm not sure how well it's going to work out because my leo hasn't eaten out of it yet, but I've only had him for a week and he's really not exploring his tank yet. I've attached a pic of the one I'm using.

The mealworms may not be dead, they may just be laying motionless. When mealworms die they turn black so if they arent black they are mostlikely still alive.

Type bowl and feed them.

That bowl will work. Others at Walmart too. Deep bowls hold the worms but you will keep their attention if you put a slice of carrot in for them to eat. Also for assisting the gecko to want to eat from it, build up around the bowl with slate, rocks, etc. so to make a restimg place at the bowl top level. Water bowl this way too and place a few pebbles in it so to allow footing if small gecko, cricket, etc. gets in it. take care. HJ

Your mealworms should not be dieing in one day. If they are there is a good chance they were not gutloaded and dehydrated.

They should be gutloaded with a good base gutload and with fresh vegetables such as potatoes, carrots, and squash. You can even use apples and oranges. The mealworms will get their water from the vegetables and fruit.
