hey everyone.. can someone please help me find a good mealworm dish... i have went through about 4 different store bought ones and they all seem too high. i just got my first leo and it is about 2 or 3 months old.. and it does not eat out of the dish. the only time it ever eats is if i put the food on the ground in front of its face or hand feed it. what bowl do you guys use or have used when your geckos were smaller to keep food in the tank at all times? please help me find something that will keep the worms in but let my leo see that there is food it there. any1 have any pics of what they use and what works for them..? thanx alot everyone

There are lots of ways to go with mealie dishes. I use disposable dishes from The Bean Farm, 3" diameter with a plastic ring around the edge that prevents mealworms from escaping(also great for preventing water from spilling when sliding a tub out from a rack), gatoraide caps, and 3" plastic plant saucers. If your gecko is having problems seeing in the dish petri dishes also work quite well and are completely clear with a low edge.

look under food/feeding tools.

Here are a couple suggestions to help your gecko figure out the dish:

-Put something near the dish that the gecko can climb on and get a view down into the dish, sort of like a feeding ledge.
-make sure there are plenty of worms in the dish, enough to create enough movement to attract the gecko's attention.
-put a small piece of potato/carrot/apple in the dish with the worms. They will feed on it and become more active, moving more and attracting attention.

Just keep at it. Sometimes it can take babies a little while to get the hang of it, but once they do they usually know exactly where the food is and will often be waiting by the dish for their dinner.

just leave the worms in whatever dish you have if they get hungry they will find it , its not a big deal if they go hungry a few days if the food is there they will get it eventually. and shedding depends on how fast they grow i have had my rescue girl for about a month and she just shed her 4the time.

I found that plastic petri dishes (I got from progecko) worked good for some of my geckos that didn't seem to get the dish thing. They have low sides but the bigger mealies do get out.

I found some glass votive candle holders at a craft store (Michaels) for $0.99 that are great dishes for mealworms. They rarely escape and the geckos can't tip them over. The only problem at first was that geckps tried to attack through the glass sides. But they quickly figure it out.

My leo is still small but I found an old pickle jar lid in our cupboards and tried putting some small mealies in that for him tonight ( only my second time feeding him since I got him ) and the sides were low enough that the movement caught his attention and he ate em all

handling at 1st just put your hand in the tank let him explore it, see if he walks up your hand mine do except 1 lol, but when he and you get comfortable with that you can pick him up sit on the bed or floor somewhere not so open and a little safer incase he jumps off you, even 5-10 minutes handling a day you will notice him becoming calmer and easier to handle , my adults dont care what i do to them flip them over to look at the bellies ect it just takes time. oh dont let them run on the floor at 1st i meant like sit crosslegged or something keep him confined or he may bolt and spazz lol

I had my wife get me some pitri(sp?) dishes from her lab. They work great! Clear, not too high and the worms can't crawl out. Maybe you can google for some? They have to be cheap.

ok so i think i might be doing something wrong... someone please help...
i think it has been about 3 or 4 or more days since i have started this post. i could the advice of someone on here and just left the mealworms in a dish for the gecko to find.. as far as i can see it has not ate anything.....it just keeps going from hide to hide.. so i guess this means it has not eaten in about 4 days... it is not in shed.. it just shed like a week ago. is it just being lazy? should i start to drop the food in front of its face again so it will eat? or keep at it till it finds the food... i even tried the carrort in the middle of the food bowl trick to get them to keep moving for a while..she just walks right pass the dish all the time..i even tired to feed some P.worms i got in the mail yesterday since they move alot more.. and i placed it in front of her fav hide. but nothing.. someone please help.

I think it might be a temperature issue, what temps does your tank have?

On the worm dish issue: i use an olive dish, the one that has a stuck holder on it for picks. The dish is great for the worms, although I had it stand next to a ledge so they could see into it. The holder held a cactus but it died :D
