Mealworm problem..

Ive had my first geck for about 2 weeks now, and I cant say i've seen him/her eat his mealies...

Well he eats at night and at first i never counted the amount of mealies in his/her dish but the number never seemed to dramatically decrease and the bowl has certinately never been empty. 3 days ago i put 25 mealies in his dish and today there are still 25.i' I've been feeding crickets as an alternative. Does anyone have any suggestions on why he/she isnt eating his mealies?

I hope it's healthy; juvenile about 4.3 inches long weighs 8 grams.

To clear up any questions, i feed them fruit and veg when they are in their main tub and in hte dish i put a few small chunks of veg, all there is suppliment powder in the dish to make sure they stay powdered (it seems to come off htem quite easy so i put some in the dish). Are there any alternative for mealies i can use for his staple diet?

Cheers.

Is he eating the crickets? If so, you just have a cricket eater who's not interested in mealworms. Most of my adults (except one) have converted from mealworms to crickets. Most of them will also eat superworms. Maybe the mealworms are just too small for some geckos.

When he's awake you could try putting a mealie or two in front of him and see if he'll bite.

mealies tend to stop moving once they are in the dish for a while, try changing them more frequent becaues if they are not moving they are not attracting the leos.

I also had the same problem to start with but once I had put a few in her face, she started to go for them :)

She's only 2months old and only had her for 5 days so it might have been down to the 'settling in period'

Now there's no stopping her....tonight I placed about 23 mealies in her dish and they were all gone within 20mins!!!

First I was worried she wouldn't eat and now I'm worried she's eating waaay to much. Especially for her age >.<

Good news, he's decided to eat them! i tried a couple of things like changing them and putting them near him in the day nothing seemed to work then last night he must have had about 10.

Thanks for the advice guys!

It's funny how that happens. Tiamat loves her mealies as well. But they're more like a snack for her. She'll have a few, but for her big meals she loves her supers. lol Forget about crickets.
