Female Varanus tristis... A small tree dwelling australian varanid... My good friend and partner in a couple of projects, John Adragna, has had great success breeding this species... Its about time someone is breeding something other than red and yellow ackies... LOL... This is one of his girls... I took this photo last night and was very happy with the way it came out... If you go to my gallery, you can see the full sized version...

Wow. Beautiful picture!
So shes an Ackie? I've heard alot of great things about this species! Not many in the US, though, is there?

No she is not an ackie.. She is a Varanus tristis... Common name is a blackheaded monitor... There are quite a few ackies out there but hardly any V. tristis... I believe there are only 2 known breeders of the species and one of them is the guy I mentioned... The animal pictured is one of his breeding females..

Ah... Sorry... I'm just starting to learn about some of the Australian species, so I ask alot of dumb questions.
She is absolutely beautiful! :)
