Moist Hides...

Hey guys, I have a question about the location of the moist hide. I've had my leo Arabesque for about 6 days. Does the moist hide belong on the cool or warm side? My leo books say the cool side, but on gf it seems like it should be on the warm side. So which side does it belong on? Warm or cool? I've been able to maintain optimum temps for my leo, he's eaten twice and pooped two or three times, but now it looks like his skin is turning opaque. So I need to be ready if he's about to shed. Thanks in advance for good advice!!

Mine was on the cool side and he never used it. I moved it to the warm side and he's in it all the time.

Try it out and see where they use it. Mine is almost directly over the UTH because that's the only place Puzzle would go in it. Put it one place, and if you don't see them using it in a day or so, try it somewhere else.

In order for it to be a "humid" hide, it needs to be on the warm side.

Otherwise its just a wet hide

I have the same opinion as Stuart. But some people say it doesn't matter, some people put one on both sides, and some put it on either or. But ya, I like it on the warm because it is more 'humid'.
But it does go dry faster, so clean it out more frequently.

Thanks everyone for the advice. He managed to shed this afternoon just fine. Fortunately my apartment got very hot because it was 80 degrees outside, so that naturally raised the temps inside of his enclosure. From what I can tell it's all off and he ate it all. His toes are normally white and appear to be shed free but how can I tell for sure that the dead skin is completely off of his toes?

His warm hide is a heavy rock but the moist hide is a deli cup. I had it in there right side up but, when I turn it upside down like everyone elses he wouldn't go in. I tried to move it to the warm side but he kept moving it to the cold side. I'm just going to have to add another hide which is fine, I'm not done furnishing his cage yet. Right now he just has the basics.

Actually the humid hide should be in a spot where the temps (outside the hide) are in the low to mid 80s... Your gecko should only be using the humid hide spot when it is about to shed or lay eggs... So keeping it in the hot area and making it more inviting for frequent use is not in the best interest of your leo... Spending too much time in a humid hide can cause health issues like URIs, skin abscesses especially on the foot pads, and other skin related issues...

Yep! My humid hide is NEVER directly by/above the heat source. This also keeps it from drying out, which is very important with an egg laying female.
