Go to afew shows and check out everybodys prices, usually that will give you some decent bairings on how to price your animals. The first time i went up with a box of leo's my priceing was a bit wack but i came back the next show and made my very first sale. Dont undercut the big breeders too much, but your going to have to do it a bit because you will have no reputation at all when starting out.

in all honesty it depends upon the genetics as well as the coloration of the animal. when pricing my geckos i typically view many sites and take a happy medium on what the going price is.

This method works great...but I also would suggest picking sites with a reputation and establishment in the market similar to yours (The Gecko Person)...IE dont look at JMG, Geckosetc, HISS and so on and then base off of their prices.

Why not base prices off of those people? They are respectable as well as they have fair market value on all their animals. Those are the people that i firmly look at their pricing and then price accordingly.

I wasn't talking about you Ryan...thus my including the name of who I was directing the statement to. I am saying that if someone who is up and coming or a new breeder that they will find it almost impossible to sell their geckos at the price that bigger breeders do. Reputation plays a lot in the ability to have higher prices. If people are confident in the breeders lineage and experience then they are more willing to pay higher prices. If someone has their first ad on a classifieds and is selling a 65g Raptor do you honestly think they will get over 200 for it like one of the breeders I mentioned is asking for theirs. I am not saying to not use their prices, I am just trying to help them gauge themselves in the market with a higher possibility of making sales. You also have to look at the fact that they are 13 and are most likely not trying to support a growing hobby/business through sale/purchase of 4 geckos, but rather just sell/purchase geckos and begin a new endeavor.

I'm a firm believer that if the gecko has the genetics and color it doesn't matter who has the animal as long as it's up to general standards of the morph it warrants the price tag. I think that if most people would adopt this then we wouldn't have $65 eclipse poss het Tremper. I think that if those prove out to be non het it's worth alot more then just $65. It's a matter of attempting to maintain a higher price tag on your base line morphs. Also will help keeping the price up on high quality line bred morphs IE Halloween Mask, Bold Stripes, Redstripes etc.

I agree and disagree with your statements. I think reputation should and does have a factor in pricing though. However, if you would like to debate this further then PM me or something so we don't jack the OP thread. We have answered their question and given two opinions on it.

Just to blurt out prices would be quite inacurate since morphs are often graded by appearance. As previously mentioned, a great way to determine pricing is to research your market from high end to low end of each morph. Big breeders have worked many years to develop their lines and reputation and their prices reflect that. It's not a bad thing as it enables smaller breeders to sell off a name brand reputation. It also depends if you are selling at a show or online. Undercutting everyone's prices will devalue the market and that has long term effects, both in relationships with other sellers, and the ability to build your reputation among a customer base. Check out the master breeder list sticky on this site and compare what you have available with others' prices. That will be your range for online sales. At a show, walk around and check what others are selling for.
