Oh thank you! He is my buddy. He has come such a long way. I consider him a rescue, he was living in deplorable conditions, wrong food, no toys. Look at him now! It took about a year of working through his fear, but now he is a sweet bird .:smitten::smitten:

I've never seen a mousebird, that tail is LONG. I thought my Tiels had tails, how do you space things in his cage for him? *lol* I adore finches, had a small breeding colony in AL for a few yrs, just your normal zebras. LOVE that "meep meep" sound.

The tail is very stiff, the feathers are like fur. They can go into torpor. A very odd but loving and sweet bird. He gets around amazingly well, for having short wings, a long tail and legs, and huge feet.:)

I use flat cajeput coffee table perches, and bottlebrush tree perches, since they are soft.

They use their feet to cling, and sleep hanging from the top of the cage by their feet.

I worked at an exotic bird store for years! I used to have a bird-room (pre-kids). I always used to get so mad at people for having a baby and giving up their bird, and then it happened to me :(. I had an umbrella cockatoo, and a congo african grey at the time and I was so stressed out at times that I ended up giving away my 2 year old cockatoo that I hand fed from weeks old....yes I GAVE her away! I regret that decision now that my kids are a little older, I miss her terribly :( But I still have my Grey (which I also hand-fed from weeks old) She is now 18 years old :)
Looking at your pictures brought back memories :) I miss having my bird room. :(
