I don't know if "he" will make it yet, as he seems very thin to me and still has his umbilicus attached to what feels like significant remaining yolk, but at least it's a pretty cool first hatchling.

The sire is a Mack Snow het RAPTOR. The dam is a RAPTOR.

His cord is atrophying, but not yet separated, and he has lunged with mouth agape a couple times. I will check his progress tomorrow and perhaps try and feed him. I am unsure of whether or not his eyes are Eclipse yet. I am certain the pupils are at least those of an albino. When I have the ambient light low enough for him to open his eyes for more than the briefest of moments, it's too low for me to accurately assess their appearance. Time will tell.

So, I found a spot where the cord had turned brown and died close to the egg itself and separated it. I opened the egg, as it had surprisingly substantial mass. There was something akin to a teratoma within. No shape to it. A lump with blood vessels and organs. No skeleton. No orifices. I guess I now know where the baby's mass went.

Gotta love your approach! May I call you Dr. Baoh? You bring a whole new level to GFs.net and I hope you're in it for the long haul!

Kudos!

Ironically, I am often misaddressed as Doctor at work, as I have heavy interaction with some aspects of our veterinary medicine division and the gentleman in charge has a last name that seems similar to my own.

Thanks for the well wishes, all.

The teratoma-like twin was creepy. Even had a beating heart. I wish I had taken a picture of it before I ended its "life". The baby is now ambulatory and I will try to provide it with food. I hope it is internally fine, considering the sharing of resources it had to endure. I wonder how its brother will turn out.

Their mother laid two more eggs this morning, too. Smallish. I hope they end up being fertile.

Has he had his first shed yet? cause they never eat until they've shed their first skin. (usually 3 days or so after emerging) Keep us posted on the little guy--I'll keep sending positive vibes until I hear he's eating on his own :)

Not yet, Brian. I got him to lick a wee bit of a slurry concoction off of the tip of his snout today, though, so at least that is something.

Well, I was just informed by phone that this one died earlier today. Oh, well. Hopefully, it's clutchmate will fare better. Onwards and upwards.

Man, it's clutchmate sure is taking its sweet time. It has, as of today, been incubating for forty-five days at 90F. Still alive, though. In fact, when I candle the egg at present, it raises its head to the light somewhat. The shadow distorts my perception of the baby's dimensions, but it seems much bigger than its deceased brother. The relative size between this one's egg and the most recent clutch is weird, as the most recent clutch is much, much smaller. Still, they both have significant vasculature, so all is well thus far.

I imagine it cannot take much longer until the second egg from the earlier clutch hatches.

So sorry to hear about the first baby. Hopefully his clutchmate is big and healthy without the stress of having to share his egg with 'someone else'!
