My gecko seems paralyzed from about mid body back...

It seemed to be doing fine when I fed them and left for school but I got back and my girlfriend noticed a slight discoloration of its skin and she went to go poke it and it seemed to spaz out and started making a odd noise and was dragging itself with its front legs.
I told her just leave it be for a bit and it ended up walking around a bit but seemed like its back legs and tail were still paralyzed to an extent.
And as of now it is just laying in one place and when I nudge it to see if its ok it drags itself with its front legs but can still move the back legs and tail but does not want to.
I fear the worst for my gecko and it seems like it is in pain or is aggravated, if anyone has any advice it would help much. I am looking into finding a specialist vet now, but I am unsure where to start looking.

For one, Im sure when she "poked" it, she didnt poke it THAT hard, she probably NUDGED it to see if it was ok. Im sure he just used the wrong word. For two, I HIGHGLY doubt that she broke its back when she "poked" it.

As far as your leo goes, one of mine is going through the exact same thing! Just started last week. You can read my thread Here.

That will give you EVERYTHING that I have been going through with mine.
I would try to wet your finger first and put calcium with D3 on it and try to get the leo to lick some off. And watch that tail! It may start to die. I had to amputate my leos tail because it was becoming necrotic and we weren't sure if it was making the circulatory system septic or not.

Anyways, find a vet ASAP. That is my best advice (And please find one that specializes in reptiles. Dont go through all the crap that Ive been going through!)

@ gitrdone0420 when someone says 'she poked it' u would assume it would hurt a small gecko there small animals which could easily break a bone.

They may be small animals, but they are pretty hardy. And most of them have very strong bones with the amount of calcium that they take in. So no, I would not assume that a poke to a gecko would break a bone...

Im with melanie here, get a rep specialised vet asap and they are hardy, got knows if they can survive a 5 foot fall and still run off they can survive a little prod. (Yes I have got lunatic geckos that try and fly)

Depends on how much pressure, Im almost 100% certain a little poke to check if the legs are moving or not will break a geckos back, they can go through unbelieveable ammounts of stress (im not saying you should check to see how far you can go before it breaks). But they are very resilliant.

Its nothing like a human being punched in the stomach.
As I stated before, it all depends how much pressure you put behind it, a little nudge to see if the gecko can move on its own is perfectly allright.
If she stood there for a full blown 5 minute session of random prods and pokes then I would be concerned about broken limbs, even then it would just be poor husbandry and more worried about the owners mental state to even want to stand there and physically cause the gecko pain.

MrLeoGecko,
First I want to remind you to whatch how you talk to the members on the site...

Secondly, poking a gecko is not equal to being punched in the stomach and will not cause bones to break...

The issue here might very well be MBD...

first off its horrible how this thread turned into a battle of poking pressures :main_thumbsdown:

2nd im no expert but i did know someone who had a bearded dragon and its back legs went completely limp and they took to the vet turned out it just needed more calc.

were all here for help and to quickly jump on someone just scares them away from asking for help, and i agree leos are pretty hardy we've all had the jumper land and keep goin.

Agreed.
But like I said, read my thread on whats going on with my leo. It could be impaction? Or, the vet I went to today suggested maybe a blood clot to cause paralysis, or potentially calcium overload. It is really hard to tell with these little guys. All you can do is find a really good vet at this moment.
Good luck!

Sorry, forgot to mention- This was all my vet was recommending as a diagnosis for MY leo. Not yours, obvously... I cant tell you what is going on with yours unfortunately. I am just trying to say that it could be a number of things and it needs to be looked at.

to the moderator. i was not speaking out of line to other members im just speaking my opinion if u have a look at my first reply i said also it may be mbd but on the other hand im sure u will agree that poking a gecko isnt very fair the post said that the leo was fine the night before and all of a sudden it's dragging it's back legs so something must of happend to it like a object falling on him in his tank while he was climbing.

Lets not worry about the arguing, this isn't helping the gecko whatsoever. Let's just focus on the fact the gecko can have MBD or another problem?
