Just got done watching some videos of some kids handling Poecilotheria regalis hand in hand. (indian ornamentals) I had a stick that was a little to short once. I won't even spit the horror show. They are so rediculously fast, and potent. Please be aware! These are not your average rose hairs. They are fantastic animals, fun to keep but should be highly respected.:main_thumbsup:

I agree. These are incredibly fast and can completely ruin your weekend, should you catch them on a bad day. Definitely not for the inexperienced handlers.
I have a P. metallica and she only gets handled for cage changes and even then, its by an experienced T handler.
The Old Worlders command a certain amount of respect and if you don't give it, well, they'll point out your short-comings.

People are dumb, they think by handling something dangerous that makes them cool. I see many idiots on youtube make vids of them holding L.Qs(deathstalkers) and other dangerous species of scorps. The sad part is that if they get stung or bitten and have to go to the hospital, that hurts more then just the idiot handling it but the whole community.

Quoted from AnimalWorld.com:
"This species is very aggressive / defensive and should not be handled under any circumstances. The bite can be medically significant for some people."

Depending on the person that feels brave enough to handle this species of arboreal theraphosid, the act could have a very undesirable ending! Speaking from experience, these guys are lightning fast, and will give you absolutely no time to react. Some people's kids... :main_no:

I agree, I hate when people try and handle something to make themselves look cool. You never want people to get hurt but sometimes when an idiot is handling a dangerous animal and they get bit you don't feel TOO bad about it...

By the way, I'd never seen a P. metallica and I Googled it, BEAUTIFUL! If they weren't scary I'd want one! But I like pets that can't really hurt me.

Cause and effect... This is why my metallica's name is "Karma" :D
Like Maurice said, these guys are insanely fast and aren't known for the sunny dispositions. (And if I remember correctly, the P.regalis is more aggressive than the metallica, right?)
They are beautiful to see and I am blessed to have one in my collection, but they definitely aren't for the beginner or the faint-at-heart.

I'm pretty sure you're right. Let's just say that Poecilotheria are to arborials, what Pterinochilus murinus are to terestrials. :uhoh2: I wouldn't recommend handeling either of these.

I never handled any of my Pokies. In fact, the reason I sold my entire tarantula collection (200+) was that I had a P. regalis adult male escape and, even though I did catch it eventually, I just didn't feel safe with them being in the house with my (at the time) 3 year old son.

While ornamentals aren't necessary aggressive but more shy & very nervous most of the time they are not ones that should be handled unless absoloutely necessary. They are unpredictable and will fang you at the slightest provocation, they may not be the psychos that OBT's are but are still one's that shouldn't be messed with on account of their venom strength.
