I do agree with the thermometers, quite frankley, analogs suck. lol. I guess i can't really talk about that though, because i use PH strips, BUT, that lamp is fine as long as you have some other heat scource as well. I use a UTH and a lamp in my naturalistic viv because it looks nice.

How can you tell that hes had shedding problems?

Actually thats how you cook your geckos, but looking at him I see bits of leftover skin on his tail and toes. As well as stubby toes...

"Actually" thats how you make a cage look nice. It doesn't give off much heat. Not everyone likes thoose "bare bones" cages breeders are so fond of. Even if someone wants to use a light for the sole heat scorce it works fine. As long as the floor temp is above 85 on one side it's great. Honestley, I don't know why evreyone here is so opposed to overhead heat. I used it for 2 years with no problems.

As for the shed, I don't see anything wrong with him. What you're seeing cold be specks on the glass. The toes anen't stubby, they just look curled up to me.

First of all 85 is way too cold for Leopards. The Ambient air temp should be around 90. With a hotspot of 92+(I keep mine at 96 and have for the last 3 or so years, with better growth, better feeding, and better breeding ;) )
The reason everyone is opposed to Overhead heat is the fact that these aren't diurnal lizards, they don't bask like a Bearded Dragon or monitor would. Ambient air temp is more important then anything else, and lets remember; Heat Rises ;)

I think he's cute. If you want a heat lamp...throw a red bulb in there. keeps it warmer for him and it wont bother him

I said above 85, remeber? Besides, whats the difference as long as they get proper heat on the floor? If you put the "hot cave" under the heat light it stays warm just like it would if you put it over a UTH. As for them being nocturnal, the sun comes out in pakistan right? Why should it alway be dark in the cage? Plus if you still don't wan't light, you can get a red one, or a ceramic emitter wich lasts longer anyway.

Also, you were worried about me cooking my geckos and you keep the ambient in yours 90? :main_huh:

Ok...no reason to argue. Geckos NEED belly heat for digestion...they dont technically need heat lamps but if you want one, go for it. As long as you use a red light there should be no problem

Listen I`m not going to High-Jack this thread anymore. If anyone of you guys want to talk to me about Ambient Air Temperatures, feel free to PM or Email me ;)

What a cutie! The tail will grow back, but will look a little funny and won't have the little rings around it.
I do agree that a heat pad would be best. It's easier, cheaper, and gives belly heat dirrectly. Now, heat lamps can be used, I sometimes have one on in one of my tanks during the day if the temps aren't where I want them. It's not a red bulb, but it's on during the day, so it's fine. Also, heat lamps tend to dry out the enclosure, in my experience. After having the heat lamp on in mine, I always have to go back and spray down the humid hides (several, it's a large enclosure with several geckos) and nest boxes.

Ok, this is a suggestion I'm getting the heat pad but if I change the bulb in the lamo can I use it as a light for his tank?

Yes, you can use any light as long as it doesn't heat up too much. Although if you are using a UTH you don't need a heat light too, I would use a low-wattage bulb like a 40 watt.
