After many a misguided reading that's their 3rd substrate! They started with aspen (which came with the cage) then I went to calci sand, was quickly informed to dump that... now to the coconut and tiles. They seem happy with it! Love my little babies, they are my first AFT's and well, I know they wont be my last! Hoping to get another female maybe this weekend... which of course means a new bigger cage soon!

is that coconut a solid material? i cant tell in the pictures......or is it in pieces like gravel?

Its the kind that comes in the brick and you add water to rehydrate it... my brain is totally blanking out on all the right words.
When I put it in the tank (very wet) I compacted it down nice and tight as to keep it more like a carpet than loose.
