looks cool, where'd you put the UTH? is that hide that your leo's going into your humid hide? You don't have it on sand there do you? If you do I as well as most of the people in this forum would strongly urge against the sand. If the leo goes to strike at their food they are highly likely to ingest the sand which will cause impaction over time and could kill your leo.

the rocks is 2 pieces the 2nd piece is on the outside of the glass thats held together by magnets.. its like a hide a rock that i add peat moss into when he looks about ready to shed.. also hes about 6 inches long and i made the substrate (sp?) out of zoo med calci sand and sheet rock to cover it.. (if u cant tell) also the dish in the back is full of calcium powder and the dish in front with water. the under tank heater is under the tank below the big rock and half way between the cave.

that's pretty cool, I'd keep that hide consistently moist every day instead of just when you think he's going to shed, it'll aide in the process just by softening up the skin, preparing it for the shed. toss the calci sand in the cracks of the rocks, if you want to use something like that you can go to Lowes or Home Depot and pick up tiles, measure them to fit inside the tank and they'll cut them exactly to the dimensions you need at the hardware store as long as you're buying them from them. other then that it looks pretty neat. I like those rock walls that come with the tanks. are you controlling your UTH with a thermostat or just a rheostat? You don't actually have a light in the tank do you? I'd get rid of it if you do, since leos are nocturnal they're very sensitive to light, if you just keep it on for viewing or cleaning the tank there's no harm though, just keep the light off whenever you're not using it to see inside the tank yourself as it will agitate their eyes badly.

It's not all sand that is bad, it's just the commercial types, like Calcisand. And since your gecko is 6 inches, he should be fine on real sand from Home Depot or somewhere as long as the grains of sand are as small as they come. Ron Tremper keeps his adults on sand, so I'm gonna go ahead and trust the guy.

But you could also do what Scott is saying and buy tile. It's easier to clean, but your gecko won't have as much fun digging around in it lol. I personally use Ecoearth because it looks more "organic" than anything else and it's harmless.

I would keep the hide moist at all times... My leo loves her moist hide..not just when she is getting ready to shed.
