Whoever asked about the cactus thing, I got one too.
I got mine at CoPet, originally $15 for $5. Nice little hide, eh?

ohh nice find but I'm not a fan of that perticular cactus one, I just don't get the gaping hole....it's too shallow to hide in, to high up to comfortable be in, it's a big green hole......why? my favorite is this certian cactus that looks more like a aloe vera plant but bubbily and starts with a c, and has red flowers on the ends of them...its AWESOME!! *tries to find a picture*

Found it, it's this one!! Kalanchoe Cactus , last one on the list http://www.zilla-rules.com/products/dcor/desert-series-terrarium-plants.htm

My little BB was up in the hole sleeping the other day.
Yes, it is small, but it is mainly for habitat decoration.

Well.....I took the cactus and removed the small pocket where the animal was supposed to rest. The result of this is the usable area is much larger and I'm going to try this out as my moist hide. When you remove the pocket there is a large area in the base of the plant that I put moist paper towels in for moisture.

I woke up about two hours ago and found the little booger in there. He seems to like it and has not come out yet.

Yeah.....if I get two females it's from the same breeder and actually from the same clutch too. It's a 15 G tank but not an aquarium and so some of the volume that normally goes towards height has been redistributed into more useful dimensions. It's 24"L x 12"W X 12"H. You think that's still too small for two females?

Moving the hides around my warm hide is now 92 and the cool hide is 80 :)

Then that sounds good. My 15 is a fish tank one and it barely has enough space to fit everything but yours looks like it has enough space.

I'm using Reptile carpet.

Be warned if you "gut" the original pocket on that cactus - there is a very nice, large and flat part of the cactus directly above the entrance. I've already has a few oh sh#t moments when I couldn't find Sam and he was up there. It's large enough to completely hide the Leo.

On a positive note I really like it as a moist hide. The base holds a fair amount of moist paper towel and I have mine both over the UTH and partially below the heat lamp. The net result has been temps inside of ~92 F and the base of the cactus + moist paper towels absorb the heat from the UTH well and the paper towel is luke warm.

He pretty much only alternates between the moist warm hide and the cool hide. He completely ignores the log warm (dry) hide. I think it maybe too open for him at this point.

Haha, funny to hear that!
My Icee sits up where you are talking about.
I knew where she was though, because her tail hangs down.

Well after some time with Sam and some observations about my original setup ......here is my final setup.

I went with slate tile ($1.90 per tile @ HomeDepot and they fit perfectly into the enclosure) which I think looks much nicer than the carpet and it does a much better job a evening out the UTH. Moist hide is in the middle with half of it under the overhead light. Warm hide is the rock cave on the left and cool hide the log.

My current temps are 93F in the warm hide, 84F in the moist hide and 78F in the cool hide.

It's interesting. I've been watching Sam a lot since I got him. I just put slate tile in last night and for the first time ever he came out from a hide and laid down out in the open on the warm slate over the UTH and beneath the over head light. It even looked like he was flattening his body out to make maximum contact with the slate. 15 mins later he took a big poop. Warm slate must be doing his GI tract some good!

Ok....I've actually switched the cave and log hide because I found the cave hide temps would creep up into the 100F range. When I use the log they stay at 95F.

He did do a little basking last night out in the open on the warm side, he does spend time in the cactus (~83F) but he's mostly in the cool hide (80F). I almost never see him in the warm hide. My questions is do you think the log hide is too big to make him feel secure? He's eating and pooping well. I'm just trying to see if it's normal for a growing/eating Leo to spend most of their time at 80F or does he just prefer the cool hide over the warm?
