Ok so i got all the enclosure ready and all that stuff and when I put the Heating Pad on it goes to 100 degrees+ and with no heating 82-87 degrees :main_huh: I think i need a rheostat or something o.o can someone tell me what i need

And if the gecko is good with 82-87 degrees until i get a rheostat

Yeah i made the mistake of getting a heat mat without a thermostat, its a must have and 82-87F is a good temp for them but i wouldnt get a gecko without getting the thermostat and making sure the temp stays good.

That temp is OK for now (82-87), but I would get a thermostat as soon as you can to control the temp, the hot side should be in the low 90's. I wouldn't leave the heat pad on without one because those temps are very high and you dont want to risk burning your gecko.

A thermometer measures the temperature.

A rheostat controls how much power the UTH puts out. Once you set the rheostat, the amount of power the UTH puts out won't change (until you put it at a different setting). If the air temperature changes a lot, the temperature on the floor of the tank may change as well, but since the rheostat doesn't change anything, the UTH will not adjust to the change.

A thermostat uses a probe to measure the temperature and turns on and off depending on whether the temperature goes above or below its set temperature. The thermostat has the best chance of keeping the floor at the temperature you want.

The thermostat will best control the temperature. A rheostat is a little cheaper and you may have to re-adjustit periodically.

The lowest temperature on the floor should be low 90's farenheit.

What's your language? I have several so may be able to write in another one. I can also put it in easier English if you need it.
