Im a first time breeder and my gecko just layed her first clutch of eggs. I have them in a home made incubator untill i can get an incubator (I will this weekend.) The incubator is a plastic bin filled with about 2 inches of water. I am using a water heater and keeping it at about 85 degrees. The eggs are in moist vermiculite in a deli cup sitting on two bricks above the water. They seem to be slightly sunken and soft. A few hours after i put them in the incubator they became slightly sunken and they are soft. Does this mean they are infertile? Is there any thing i can do to fix this? Thanks for the help.

They may be infertile, the humidity may be high or they haven't hardened up yet. I don't use vermiculite, so I don't know how wet it should be. Maybe someone else can post about that. Otherwise, your best bet is to keep the temps as steady as possible.

I put a humidity gauge in my egg container a few months ago and I think it was at 80 or 90%. It's not just humidity, though, it's also the amount of wetness (like actual water) in there which can drown the embryo if it's too great.

Its hard to tell I have had eggs like this some have hatched and some have not I have a quick story I went trough my incubator and took out all the eggs that looked bad and put them in a deli cup and put them in my rep. room on top of a rack and forgotten about them last week i pulled down some nest boxes and there was a gecko! So never throw a egg or disregard chance of a egg not haveing a chance let it stay in the cup till you are sure but the shurken egg part is not always a good thing i would remove some water from the dish i used a 50/50 ratio and till this season then i went to a 25/75 and checked once a week i had a huge differnce with my hatch ratio so dryer is said to be better and just give the eggs a month or so till you toss them out thx

wow they have been perking up, they are still reletivly soft but they arent collapsed at all anymore. I have them at 85 degrees. It would be great if they ended up hatching!
