I could use some help determining if I need heat packs/cold packs for my shipping Monday.

The first one: Our temps here Monday are 83/59. They go thru KY and so far, their temps have been similar to mine (I'll have to check again though). I'm shipping somewhere with a low Monday of 54 and a high Tues of 67. I'm thinking no heat pack since it will most likely be above 60 most of the night. I'm shipping to a cutomer care center for customer pick-up, so I'm not sure what time they will arrive there.

The second one is harder for me: Again, our temps are 83/59. Where I'm shipping has a low Monday of 67 and a high Tuesday of 86. I'm afraid to put a cold pack in and freeze the geckos at night, but that high Tuesday worries me. I'm guessing that it will only be around 80 at 10:30 am though, but I'm not positive. What would you do?

Thanks!

yeah i agree with maurice. no heat or cold packs on either one. if a gecko comes in to the customer cool, just ask them to warm the gecko up slowly, at room temperatures, before putting them into their enclosure

I wouldn't use heat or cold packs for either of those situations.

Thanks!

Thanks! That's what I've been doing. I was more worried about the heat for the second place.

I think you will be fine with no packs. That does give me an idea though of something to send with our geckos when we ship them. I'm sure it would be helpful for new owners to know how to acclimate their new pet. Thanks guys.

as far as the heat. is the package arriving by 10:30 or noon? if so things should be fine with 80 degree temps

Do you know if the heat index is a factor where you'll be shipping? In the Gulf Coast you can add 10 degrees to the actual temp because of the humidity. If you think it might be a concern, ask the buyer what their morning "feels like" temperatures are when it's in the low 80's.

It's 10:30 there.

I'll have to look into that more. I looked at their temp right now. It says 72 and feels like 72. The humidity is lower than here, so I think that should be okay. It is Texas though, so I'll ask them how their temps feel in the am.

what part of texas? me and mel down in here somewheres ;p

It's Round Rock. I coudln't get the hour by hour for Tuesday, but it did give me a 9am temp. That was 71 and feels like 71. I can't see it getting that much hotter by 10:30.:)

You should be alright then. They're not down in the "arm pit" of Texas like we are so the temps should be what the forecast shows. What lucky geckos, it's nice in Round Rock!
