Roaches are by far the best feeders for Aussie Species.

This is very true. Mealworms are not a suitable
food for Australian geckos as they have very little calcium as well as having a tough exoskeleton that can be difficult to digest and impactions of the gut from undigested mealworm skins is not uncommon.

Australian geckos prefer Roaches but they will also eat crickets. You will find that most breeders here in Aus feed roaches exclusively.

What type of roaches? And what size?

Speckled Feeder Roaches.

An alternative common name is the Lobster Cockroach but as another species carries this same common name, with a different scientific name, it is perhaps wise to avoid confusion and not to refer to N. cinerea as the Lobster Cockroach. Other common names used are the Madeira, Cinereous, Tampa, Speckled and finally "Woodie". As the Australian common name, "Woodie" is inaccurate also.
¨ Easy to keep and breed.
¨ Live for up to a year .
¨ Perfect for Dragons, Geckos, Skinks, Monitors and frogs.
¨ Unlike crickets, they almost ‘thrive on neglect’.
As for size, that depends on the gecko. Nothing bigger than the geckos head.

Hope that helps.

Nephrurus tend to like prey items that move quickly. Mine are on a diet of crickets but they also like discoid roaches. A few of them will even take superworms with vigor. I don't think any of the species would eat from a dish and they would most likely bury it.
