I went to a reptile show today in ft. lauderdale and decided to get two crested geckos. I know their care and husbandry, but have no idea about morphs. The first one the breeder told me was a brendle or something, and the second one, the breeder didnt specify, but said s/he is a partial pinstripe(I know what pinstripes are). If these are incorrect, please let me know and tell me what the morphs are. Also, if you think I should change or add to the tubs, let me know. Thanks!

Here are the tanks. 19 gallon tall tubs with fake plants all over. Paper towel substrate. Water bowl and food bowl.

Yes, they are housed seperately, but Im only posting one tub, since they are almost identical.

The first one is a harlequin and the second is a flame not a part pin. Part-pinners need to have over 40% pinning. I personally think 60% but 40% is about the standard.
I would add a few sticks of bamboo or something of the sort to the tubs. They looks good and they are very nice geckos. What is there weights if you don't mind me asking? Also did you get a hatch date on them?

Thanks for the info Lunar. They are both very young. The Harlequin im not sure of. Ill check the weight tomorrow, right now im letting them settle in. The flame hatched on 5/16/08 so he is about a month old today. Where do I get bamboo? Petstores?

Yes, Andrew, they are my first, and I already love them!

Okay they COULD change "color" at that age and the "pinning" on that one may fade even more. IMO That breeder should NOT have sold them that young at all. I wait tell they are at least 5+ grams (about 3-4 month old) before I sell them local/shows and then 7-9+g before shipping. I know that this is a sort of the accepted rule for cresteds (as far as the other breeders I know and deal with). Considering that this breeder told you different morphs than what they look to be and that they were selling them SO small I suggest you watch there health very closely for the next few months, because it maybe that this person dues not know much about them. Was this breeder selling other animals at the expo or just cresteds? What is diet were they are on?
OH!, =) and you can get 5 foot tall bamboo sticks at home depot and garden stores for less than 5$ just cut them down to fit and you will have tones to do other tanks w/.

most of my juvies were 5 grams and under when i got them, they are doing good and eat like pigs i have 3 right now at like 6ish grams that i have had for about 2 or more months they were hatched march something i am pretty sure or april and my first crestie was about 2 grams when i got it or less it was about a month old it was very tiny when i got it in march now its nearing 8-9 grams and getting big. make sure they are eating and maybe a smaller tub would be best since they are very young so they can find their crickets and CGD better. I dont think you should have a problem with them as long as they are eating and if they are pooping they are eating, cresites grow very slow especially compared to leos. I am no expert but this is what i have learned since owning them. I have a baby crestie right now that worries me cuz its so small I got it with 2 adult females its one of their babies. its at most 6 wks or less. throw some crickets with them and they should chase them down like no tomorrow i notice cresties love crickets and give CGD at least a few times a week and crickets a few times a week. at least thats my feeding for them. my adults get some superworms sometimes and thats it other than crickets & CGD. oood luck with them and need to ask anything just come on the forum their is always someone normally on to help with things lol.

My buckskin didnt change much in color, it did get darker though but my little tiger got a lot more orange and the pattern got more defined and when its fired up it looks just awesome. Mine were born in Jan.

Very nice Crested's and I really like those tubs

Did you cut the middle out of the top and glue screen over it or do you just have holes in the sides?

I'm just curious because I really want some of those tubs-lol!!

Lunar, I understand your concern. Although the breeder did not know the morphs, he still gave them proper care and husbandry. He had them in proper tanks, with the right humidity, foliage, ect.. ffed them the right sized crickets and the CGD and they look very healthy. Where do you recommend getting GDC?
Ashleigh, cant wait to see pics.
Sandy, thanks! I cut a bunch of holes in the top instead of cutting out a square and glueing a screen lid. With the mesh lid, the humidity will escape to quickly.

Jasen local pet shops should have CGD. It runs $4-6 for a small bottle around here. That'll last you a while. I also feed some fresh mushed up banana & crickets.

They are cute.

Very cute geckos. I'd add more foliage in the tanks though. Looks a little bare... Consider the Exo-terra hanging plants.

Definitely agree a harlequin and a flame. The pinstripe isn't enough to qualify. The colors will probably change as they grow and age, but usually pinstripes don't "grow" more pinning.

I think Jeanine mushes up just the bananas and not the crickets. But definitely use it as a treat and not a staple. The CGD is the best staple you can use. You can usually purchase a bottle of CGD at pet stores, but they are commonly out of it. Try checking online. You can buy a bag at pangeareptile.com that should last you a while with just 2 babies. I'd check pet stores first though, since you have the geckos and no food, it'll be quicker to get it, but cheaper if you buy a larger portion online from pangea.

Pet stores have been slow to get it in since the switch of flavors. Julie at Geckoranch.com has it and so dues Matt at pangeareptile.com. Each has the flavor system as well and the mango powder (not to be confused w/ the mango flavor CGD) is very popular with my geckos as a treat. I don't think Julie has the mango powder. I try and stay away from banana as a treat because the high level of potassium lowers the absorption of calcium but once in a great while its fine.
I agree they look very healthy and I'm glad they are and were on a good diet. =)

I don't know how these were done, but I like to cut part of the middle off, and hotflue screen in place of the hole, as well as drill holes all the way around the rim of the tub.
