Nice tank setup! I would put the UTH underneath the tank, and not vertical on the side. A digital thermometer with a probe is probably better, but not a must. About the morph, I think he may be a dark tangerine? (I'm just guessing); you need to take a close up pic of his/her underside in order to tell whether he is really a he or a she.

the UTH is on the underside of the tank. it is under his moist hide. I just put it running the width of the tank, not the length (if that makes sense).

i am unclear as to whether or not i need to turn the UTH off at night. if someone could answer that, then i might be good for a while (at least until i can think of some more, and figure out its definite sex and morph).

thanks again to everyone who has helped me out!

You'll want to keep your UTH on at all times, even through the night. As your room naturally cools at night, so will the tank. By completely turning the UTH off, you risk letting the tank get too cool.

If you buy a thermostat for the UTH, you can turn the heat down a bit at night, but it won't hurt em at all to have 90 F all the time, if he wants cooler temps at night then he'll stay over on the cooler side of the tank:main_thumbsup:

You have a very pretty leopard gecko! With as much orange on its tail as it has, I would say its morph is hypo tangerine carrottail. Have fun! :)

To sex your gecko, you need to take a picture of its belly near the tail (vent area) and post it here. Your gecko may not yet be old enough to tell if it is male or female conclusively. However, most pet store geckos are female. :thumbs up:

Really? When I got my first two leos, both of them turned out to be males, guess I was just unlucky haha.

I don't think that it is old enough yet. I have been reading online how to sex them. The employee at Petsmart (not sure how much she knew though) told me that the gecko was 4-5 months old.

Jason, I kind of thought you were saying you had the UTH on the side too. It should be on the bottom, and as you now know, the only way to get the correct temp is to put the thermo directly above the heater on the floor of the cage. :D Make sure to check over the whole heater, they seem to have hotspots in them sometimes.

You might try something like a 20 watt "nightlight" (the blue phosphorus or red bulbs) for viewing. Your temps sound fine if they are at 90, and anything too much higher, will raise the temps. However, once the winter comes, you will have lower ambient temps, so that`s when you may need a bigger bulb(40 or 60 watt). I`de always keep the box and receipts to test out which bulb was right for what I was doing. Just in case I bought one that was too warm/cool.

I would not worry about the humidity too much. It is rarely below 75% humidity here in the summer. When it is 80-90% outside, there is not much I can do to change it indoors, and I have never had a problem.

I can not really think of anything else right now, to tell you. Good luck, and have fun! That`s a pretty cool little gecko.

I am a new Gecko owner too. I have had mine for two weeks now. When Fallen_Angel asked about how much she weighed & sexing....it forced me to pick her up to do these things. That was last night. Today all she wants is for me to pick her up. She crawls right onto my hand & up my arm & to my shoulder. You'll learn a lot on this forum. I sure have. Good luck.
