Greetings from Montana!

I'm a new fancy leopard gecko mommy as of last Friday.  I purchased what looks like a month-old, maybe a two month old baby from a local pet store. Not sure of the sex yet,.. he/she has been given the name Gidget.  Gidget is currently calling a 20 gallon tank home. He/she has been hiding out a lot but has finally eaten a few meal worms (when no one is around) lol. I have crickets as well but I haven't tried feeding them just yet.

Naturally the dofus that was helping me get what I needed for my new family member was a complete idiot! lol I was sent home with a UVB light and a basking light. Neither of which is needed. I'm using the heat lamp over the dry hide for warmth at the moment. The temp is currently 90 in the hot zone. I'm currently correcting that little mistake with a UTH and a digital thermostat that will be arriving in a couple of days. I also purchased Rep Cal calcium with D3 and Rep Cal multivitamin.

I also learned that Gidget required a humidity box as well. Which I made out of a covered pencil box with peat moss and reptile moss. Along with a quick light mist for dampness and it's good to go.

I'm still learning as I go,... Only wanting to do the best I can by my new baby. I'm sure I will have more questions as the time goes on. I've already learned so much, thank you Google! lol If I've overlooked anything please jump in and let me know. Thank you!

Thank you. I still haven't seen Gidget come out and start cruising yet. I did wake up to some gecko poop though. I never thought I'd be so excited to see poop! Hahaha! It looks exactly as it should so I know the gut is working well. ;) I'll be glad when he/ she finally acclimates and we can begin the socialization process. The eating is still slow going. A meal worm here and there. But I'm sure that to will come in time. :)

It's not unusual for juveniles to spend most of their time in hiding. That's how they manage in the wild to become adults!

Being naturally very illusive little critters it makes total sense. As long as some food disappears every so often and I keep needing to clean up gecko poo,... I'm happy. At least I know Gidget is alive and doing ok even though I don't see her/him.

Update!

Gidget has finally started to eat! She isn't too crazy about the meal worms but she loves the crickets. To watch her "hunt" is too cute. Her little tail starts to shake like a rattle snake and then BAM!! Cricket is all gone. lol

As you can see we've started the handling and socializing. I've started doing this for about 15 minutes every evening. She is very curious and sweet. When we are done then it's time for dinner. She has started to associate me with her meal time.

I'm also not sure what kind of morph she is. Perhaps you experts could help me out with that. ;)

P.S. Still not sure if "she" is a he. lol But for now I'll go with " her."
