hey guys most of you know about my situation with Bogie, he is doing a little better, not by much though. anyway i got a 2 year old female from a breeder locally, he does a fantastic job and all of his geckos were very healthy, well i brought her home a week ago today and she still hasnt ate! i have offered her large crickets, small crickets, regualar size meal worms, and large meal worms, she isnt showing signs of losing weight but it is bothering me seeing as now i have 2 geckos that wont eat, this hobby of keeping geckos is turning out to be a lot more difficult than what people lead you to believe. anyway i dont know what to do she is very active and really beautiful she has a hot side, cool side, hot is around 95 and cool side is 70, she loves playing in her water bowl and humid hide and at night she hangs out on her dry hide under the lamp. I have a day basking light and at night she has a ceramic heater. the breeder did say that it was season for her and that she wasnt eating as much as she usually does, but was eating about 7 meal worms a day and that was all that he had fed her. but she just walks all over her bowl paying no attention to them. on her first day she pooped and then nothing...do you think its what im trying to feed her? give her more time?

P.S. and before anyone asks, no she has never been on sand, she is on reptile carpet, the breeder had her on paper towels.

She may still trying to settle in. Also you should get rid of the basking bulb since Leos are nocturnal and do not like the bright light and prefer the heat source from below. This may result in her not being warm enough which also will contribute to lack of appetite.

I agree with the lights.,Dont get too uptight about it.I also have finicky eaters. Some new arrivals can take up to a month before they settle in.I have one leo I got march 3 and here it is march 31 and he's still not eating.Mind u he is a year old with good weight to him.his enclosure is fine and temps are 95 deg but he just wont eat.I'll have to ride it out.

My vet just told me the other day they need a UV a and b light, then I read on the web they dont, who do i believe LOL, I just have a low wattage red reptile bulb above and then the UTH below, but I dont think its warm enough below, he has a warm spot under his hide, but he always lays near the side of the tank and its not really warm.

Any sort of bright light will stress them out.All they need is aregular daytime nightime cycle. My leos are in their hides during the day so they get absolutly no natural light. They are nocturnal so they dont need the uv rays.thats why you give them the Calcium with vitamins.

So your going to trust a vet with a general knowledge of leopard geckos over a whole community thats been breeding and takeing care of them for years? Just get rid of the lights, your geckos will thrive without it. She may be ovulating aswell, its breeding season.

buy a temp gun.You need to know what the surface heat is ,so they can gather belly heat.it has to be between 90-95 deg give or take.he will lie wherever he's needs to, to get the proper heat.is he defecating properly and regularly.is he eating regularly?you need to find out what the temp is

I agree about the lights. Belly heat is the best. Also I would definitely believe the community over a vet. Unless they are well versed in leopard geckos, vets tend to give general reptile advice which can be very wrong sometimes. As far as your new one not eating I wouldn't worry too much at all. She could be ovulating or still settling in. Try feeding her at a different time of day.
