My boyfriend suprised me with a geckos the other day. He got one from a reptile store a female. And the other from Petco, unknown sex. They both are 9grams, not suprising the one he got from petco is very skinny and seems pale to me. I asked him what morph the one he bought from the reptile store was he said he doesnt remember but only paid 45 so i cant imagine it being anything special but the other pale looking one from Petco is unknow either and I was curious as to what they are. I tried to sex the petco one but i think still to young. The one from Petco has a hardy appetite and eats a lot. Bright yellow with tail in pic is from reptile store. Any ideas? I love them both so much but im scared to put the pale looking one in the same tank as the from reptile store. Another suprise to me is the petco one is more willing to be picked up. From new leopard gecko owner.

welcome to the forum.
The one on the left (reptile ?) is called an aberrant because the body bands are broken and not the tail bands. It may get spottier or lose the spots entirely. It's hard to tell about the one on the right. A picture taken from above would be better.
I'm glad you're not keeping them together. Geckos brought into your house from different places need to be quarantined from each other for at least a month, and if you don't know the sex it's even smarter to keep them separate. It's hard to be sure, but the one from Petco doesn't look so good. It may be more tolerant of being picked up because it's not feeling well. I would really recommend that you return the Petco one and just keep one gecko for now. Also, please read some leopard gecko care sheets that don't come from the pet store. Mine is here:

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate the care sheet. I had the homes set up for some time now just the reptile store and breeder in my town where i live is far so i wanted to wait. But my boyfriend was trying to be sweet and got them without me because its my birthday suprise lol. Actually the petco one just sheded. Heres more pics of "it" after the shed.

It does look much better after the shed. Looks like an albino, probably Tremper. Forget what I said about taking it back, but do keep them separately until you know the gender (that will probably take a few months given the size).

You are extremely helpful! Thank you so much. Another question. The gecko from the reptile store was on a mealworm diet. I know she probably wont eat for a while in a new environment but im worried so i introduce crickets but she wont eat them. She hasnt touched her mealworms so i tried crickets but no luck. How long is too long and to be concern of her not eating? Thank you again. The one from Petco is eating just fine even after eating its own shed. And perfers crickets.

It could take up to a week. Just offer the mealworms and an occasional cricket and see what happens.

Hey Aliza. Just wanted to give you an update. Unfortunately the gecko from the reptile store had crypto and i was heart broken and :( when we told them. they felt terrible and offered to replace it with two geckos but i fear all their reptiles must have it than. I had throw the whole set up away. Petco one is now 12g whoa they grow fast. Thank you for all your help.

So sorry about the one from the reptile store. If they haven't gotten rid of all their infected geckos and completely disinfected, I would never trust them again. Do a google search for the crypto test and/or get the diagnosis at the same place you got your other one diagnosed to be sure the one from Petco doesn't have it. Even if they were kept separate, if you didn't wash your hands each time, there is a chance that it got infected. How did you find out it was crypto? Good luck with the one you have left.

She started to have diarrhea so i took her and a stool sample to a vet. She diagnosed it as crypto. the vet decided that it was best to put her down. If the other did contact it? How soon will it be in her stool? I was going to get a stool sample done from her too but wanted to wait in case it wouldn't be in her stool yet. I can never trust that place again. They didn't even seem to rush to replace the geckos she was in the tank. Unless they did it after i left.

Check with your vet about diagnosing the other one. The crypto test is not the usual stool test, so hopefully the vet did the correct crypto test.

They can certainly try to feed their leopard geckos vegetables and it won't matter because they won't eat them!
