Not really sure if this belongs in this section but I just got a hatchling 3 days ago, I have him in a simple 10 gallon set up for now with 2 dry hides 1 humid hide a calcium dish and a water dish. Now my concern is he seems to be doing a ton of sleeping and only stays under his log on the warm side (about 97*) I know they're nocturnal so I checked on him during the night too, and still sleeping, but when I feed him he eats like crazy! First night I had him he ate 2 mealworms an 3 crickets! Should I be worried at all? Maybe he's stressed from moving? And when I handle him he's active and doesnt mind being held. (im confused...)

Your hot spot could be affecting your gecko. I've heard of breeders that give their babies a hot spot of 92-94F, however, i keep the hot spot at 88-92 as not to burn them. Your gecko is eating, which is always a good indication that she is doing okay. I would not worry.

97F is a little hot, try raising the light a little, if your useing a heat pad raise the tank a little so it gets more air.

Baby animals of all species spend a lot of time sleeping because they are using a lot of resources to grow. Baby geckos know instinctively that they are prey and will spend most of their time hiding. How much they are sleeping and how much they are in their hides with eyes open is sometimes hard to tell. It's good that he doesn't mind being held and is eating. I agree that the hot side may be a bit too hot, but there are other people on here who swear by a 97-98 degree hot side (I'm more in favor of 92 or so myself).

Just to add my 2 cents...hot spot in the 80s is MUCH too low. My temps sit at 96*F and I've not had even the slightest problem, in fact my geckos are doing even better than they were with my temps around 92-93*F. That, and have yet to have any of my geckos refuse food, including any of my hatchlings. They are eating like pigs. As long as your guy is eating heartily as you say he is...no problem!

the high hot spot is good for them as it helps them digest and their activity goes up. I noticed after amping up my temps that my geckos were more active and seemed to eat more willingly and more in amount
