Hello,

New to forums and new to Leos. I purchased my Gecko at a large chain petstore. She(?) was captive bred and raised on crickets. She looks very healthy and is quite active. I was please that she ate right away when I got her home and has continued to eat for us despite the stress of a new home and no longer having cage mates.

We have not yet named her because we are not certian she is in fact a she. I have read that the males will have a series of glands running up the abdomen. How visible are these glands? I haven't been able to see anything but she is she is still quite small.

Other than that my only question is about mealworms. I was able to get two 50 cnt cartons at this same large chain petstore. They have signs up talking about the shortage and the sales person said they are getting them in very small orders 4 to 5 cartons per shipment. Do you guys think it is safe to use these as feeders if the Gecko will take them? If not I'll dispose of them and stick to Crickets for now. I'm trying to talk to wife into letting me order some Dubias but she is in freak out mode due to the "R" word.

And here is a pic of our new family member hanging out on the back of my sons hand nose to tail she is about 2.5 - 3 inches long...

By that age you can't really tell

Right now I'm having issues sexing my 6 month old leopard gecko who I could have sworn was a girl and just now I see so very very very faint little holes, but no bulges at the base of the tail. So I'd say when there probably 8 months you can say for sure if it's a she or he

that or you can get a vet check

Thanks for the info. I guess we will just have to come up with a netural name.

Anyone know if it's ok to feed the mealies that ******** is selling?

Here is a visual I found helpful when trying to sex mine. I really doubt you will be able to at that age though, but for future reference :)

Yes, you can use the worms you got from that place (if they're alive), but for best results, you should put them in more nutrious bedding. You can buy chicken mash, get a container of "gutload" from the pet store, or take some grains and unsweetened cereal, put it in the blender (without the mealworms) to get a powder so it's easier to pick the mealworms out from them, and put the mealworms in there.
