New Puppy :)

Okay, so for as long as I can remember I have wanted a puppy of my own. We have a Jack Russell who's 6yo but he's a big grumpy guy who only loves my father, lol. I'm usually home alone alot so some extra company is always welcome and now I have something to look forward to rather than my school classes.

Anyways, I have spent the past few days looking and finally found a great deal on what I had been looking for! Meet Laci, my new 8 week old, Pie-Bald Mini Dachshund (one more step towards a Pie-Bald BP :p ) She's settling in nicely and already has the whole household wrapped around her paw (we've made two trips to Wal-Mart for toys, blankets, etc. just today)...haha. :main_rolleyes:

Welcome to the forum Laci!! She's adorable. Have fun potty training...lol. I had a Red Dapple Mini Dachshund and she was darn near impossible to train. They're stubborn little buggers, but oh SO cute!

Lol, yeah, I've heard housetraining can be hard but so far, I've had alot of luck with her. She usually will whine and I just kinda have to guess what she wants, which can be difficult at times. She loves her bones and playing tug-o-war so I think I'm gonna be pretty busy. She is hilarious though because she can be playing and then dead asleep two seconds later. :)

She's a cutey Katie! I'm surprised Josh didn't mind. He told me a few times to take my pup to the pound. Ha. But then MIA's a big puppy, nothing small and cute.

Have fun house training. Small dogs can be a pain to housetrain. Same with obedience train, but it's possible and the rewards are great.

Post more pictures of her!

LOL, well actually Josh is in TX and I needed a companion. Hopefully she'll be trained before Josh will have to deal with her, haha. He's not much for a ill mannered dog.

I'm REALLY happy with how house breaking is going....she already seems to understand the concept and alerts me whenever she's getting "uncomforable." I have a crate that she's sleeping in (I'm a big believer in crate training) and she only has minor troubles with that.

AWW! I wish I could still dress MIA up in cute clothes like that! She's adorable!

I did get that impression from him. That or he just didn't like dogs. Ha. Have fun housetraining. How long do you have?

She looks a little wormy...

May I ask why you choose a mini daschund?

Well, I'm not really one for dressing up pets but she's so small she gets cold whenever I take her out so I figured I'd get her some sort of sweater to wear.

LOL, Josh is a big obedient dog person....like...police German Shepherds, haha.

I have 4 months to get her all set :). Also, she has taken a dewormer. I think she looks weird because she had just eaten and her sweater was a bit tight around her belly.

Um, well, I was really looking for a smaller dog and I am picky (I don't like anything that could possibly be called a Fufu dog). Some of my friends have had Dachshunds and they have been really good dogs so I just started looking around. They also don't need as much exercise and aren't as high strung as most other Terriers so I'll be able to take her with me to an apartment and not have to worry too much.

Would he have preferred you to get German Shepherd? or a police type dog? Ha.

I understand the frufru dog thing. Yorkies are frufru dogs, but I love their personalities. They definitely have spunk.

Daschunds do need some exercise as they can have obesity problems. I thought about about that the pictures could have been after she was fed. It can sometimes take all 3 dewormers to fully get rid of worms.

He's going to be gone for a 4 months? That's a long time. Should be enough to get her housetrained or nearly. I'm still working on it. lol. And MIA's 9.5 months; her problem is stubbornness and me being a little slack. She's mostly housetrained. lol.

Daschunds article I wrote.

Well, we're hoping to get some German Bloodline German Shepherds sometime down the road. We're both excited about that. :)

Oh yeah, I understand the obesity problems. I'm really careful with things like that so I'll be watching her closely. I just mean...compared to say a Jack Russell, they're aren't as needy in the exercise area. Also, I have more dewormer meds for her.

Well, not so much he's going to be gone. I'm going to be moving to TX, lol :)

She looks so adorable in her sweater!! :) Puppies are so awesome - especially when someone else gets to do the training! Glad to hear it's going well!

Cool. When are you moving?

German bloodline German Shepherds are expensive! They're gorgeous though! They tend to have thicker, longer coats than the Americanized versions. They're usually much darker too. I've met many people who've bought pups from German breeders and had them shipped here. Quite pricey.

Thanks Nancy! and yes, training can be tough but in the end, it's worth it. :)

I'm moving in July.

Yeah, we've done alot of research, it'll just take some time for us to be in a postition that we can actually get one or two.
