I believe I have settled on a crested gecko, I enjoy the fact that they come from a more tropical climate, and look forward to the challenge of recreating a natural enviroment with live plants.

One question that came to mind, I see exo-terra makes a waterfall to go in there terraniums, I really enjoy the look of it but is this compatible with a crested gecko? Would this be good to keep humidity at a constant level, or is it somehow dangerous to it? My terranium would either have a 18x12 footprint or 24x12 footprint (still have not quite decided which one) so I think I would have the room as the waterfall is only about 11x8x8, its quite small

The only thing I would be worried about is if it was a baby it might drown in it. Besides that I don't see any problems.

Here are some things to think about:

will the gecko poop in the water and how easy will it be to clean out
will the crickets drown in the waterfall
will the crickets get into the cracks of the waterfall and stink
will the gecko fall into the waterfall and drown.

I don't mean by this to say you shouldn't do it, but think about how you may handle these possible problems.

thanks for your replies, its the exo-terra waterfall, either the medium or large, its description does say the lizard can use it as a waterbowl, so I would think they made it safe, I can't tell by the picture though, I think the pool would only be about 1/2" deep from what I can tell. Being as its removeable I would be changing the water out and cleaning it every week.

You can see the one I am looking at here http://www.exo-terra.com/en/products/waterfall.php it does not seem like there is any danger of drownings, but I am still learning so I want to be sure :D I think it would make a pretty cool addition and easy cleaning from what I can tell, as well as help the humidity?

You can also partially fill the bowl with aquarium pebbles to make it shallower if it seems too deep when you get it. The water will drain through with no problems and it will prevent drownings.

I used one a long time ago and got rid of it very quickly. They do poop in it an all over it and with the rocky look to it, makes it hard to clean. It also runs out of water fast. And if you feed crickets almost all of them will jump in and drown in the water.

I second what firecrested said. We've got one of these at my work. It's just the small one, and it really is a pain in the butt to take apart, get all of the soiled water out of, clean, and then put back together.
