I use the very simple and cheap gutload even though I should be putting more nutritious stuff into it. When I had mealworms I got a small bin and covered the surface with oatmeal and then placed half a carrot in the container and done. I suggest carrots because potatoes mold really fast so do a Bunch of other fruits and veggies.

Other people buy commercial gutload or make their own and use oatmeal, Bran, Flaxseed, baby cereal, bee pollen and a whole bunch of other stuff.

not trying to highjack, but do you gutload waxworms and supers that you give for treats?

all feeders should be gutloaded. imagine eating nothing but boiled vegitables. you will get some nutrients out of it but not the recommended daily value. same holds true for your feeders.

you are only as good as what you eat....that's what my geckos keep telling me anyway

Side note - waxies will only really eat honey or nectar-sweetened gutload. You can set them in regular gutload but they won't eat it, as far as I know.

Cody has some fine gutload at Progeckos.com which works for mealies supers and crickets. We give our mealies and supers the same mix of gutload and oatmeal for bedding. We use potato chunks in kidney dishes for water. We use the dishes because the moisture can make the oats mold quickly.

Another good nutritious gutload for meal, super worms, & crickets is dog or cat food, just kinda crush it up a little & chunk a handful in with them.

not to steal a thread but, would you remove all the stuff in the containers that the mealworms usually come in and then put the food in?

I typically do remove the worms from the packing material just because I don't know how long they have been in it. We also sift out the bedding and remove sheds time to time to keep them clean. I am probably a little obsessive about it, but I don't want to feed my geckos anything that has been wallowing in its own filth.
