New to Leos - Took in a rescue yesterday

Hi. New here. My name is Christi and my mom and I got a leo last night from a lady she works with and who didn't want to care for it. He was in AWFUL conditions. Nasty poop sand, no hide, filthy water and judging by his spindly legs and skinny body, they didn't feed him much at all. We cleaned it out real good and made him a moist hide and put a regular hide in, water and a calcium lick bowl. We've had 2 beardies for about a year so we know a little about reptiles, but we've never had a leo and this guy obviously is going to need some rehabbing. I read all I could yesterday before we picked him up, but could definitely use a little help.

I'm going to take him to the vet Monday or Tuesday, but until then here are some thoughts/concerns and questions:

1) We fed him about 8 baby dubia last night. He gobbled them right up like he was starving. He eats weird, like his head is too heavy for his neck, but he is able to catch them. I gave him 4 more dubia and some wax worms this morning. Any suggestions how much to feed him? I have plenty of dubia, but don't want to overfeed if he's not used to eating that much.

2) What are the ideal temps? His hot side was at 82-90 before we went to bed but this morning he was down to about 77. I know beardies can get a lot cooler at night than during the day, but not sure about leos. Would something like this help keep it steady? http://tinyurl.com/7jkcplu

3) I know he doesn't look too good, but he's very alert. He's wobbly but he moves around ok. How are they about coming back from mistreatment? We're already attached to the little guy and even if he doesn't make it at least he's out of the filth, is getting fed and has some people paying attention to him now.

2 things I could say is get meal worms instead of wax worms. Wax worms are OK for an occasional treat but are too fatty for regular diet. Also get some calcium with D3 for dusting.

Thank you. I'm going to get an order of meal worms in next week. Are the dubia ok until then with 3 or 4 waxies a day, or should I do less than that? I've read just about equal as far as people using vitamins with and without D3. Seems like a big debate.

Any other advice? I may have posted this in the wrong forum, but I'm mostly concerned with his health right now.

I wouldn't do the wax worms but one every couple days for like 1 week. Then I'd cut it to one a week or so. Dubias are best. They are more nutritional. Give him as many as he will eat in 15 mins.

Also when you say that his temp is dropping to 77. Is that the air temp or the surface temp?

And I also just reread... put a normal hide on the warm side and tthe moist hide in the middle. Also put another hide on the cool side. (3 total)

It's the surface temp. I have a couple other heat pads. Going to try them out tonight to see if they're any more stable.

Something else - I haven't noticed him in his water bowl at all and was wondering if I should try to give him a soak tonight. I'm very hesitant to handle him because I doubt he's been picked up in months and probably never regularly, but I don't want him to get dehydrated either. I'd also like to get his weight.

He has MBD. It is very good that you are taking him to a vet. He needs some TLC ASAP.
He also a regenerated tail. But that will not affect his health.

I thought he might. One of my beardies had a slight case of it and I recognize the wobblies. After looking at some pics and talking to a friend I figured it was a re-gen too. Poor little guy. I want to get him well. Saw some rescue stories today where 'before' pics looked worse than him. Really want to fix him.
