I didn't notice anything odd this morning when I got up, I guess getting up 15 min before I had to leave to get Zach to school on time didn't help much. I also had to clean out under my kitchen sink cause my neighbor was coming over as soon as I got back to put in a new garbage disposal.
When I got back from taking Zach, I realized the house was very quiet. Lightning is usually at the door waiting for me to come back even if I only walk out to my van to get something out of it. I call Lighting and I can faintly hear his lic jingle on his collar. I keep calling listening carefully to follow the sound. I found him in the kitchen just sitting and looking at me. I asked him if he wanted to go out and his expression was that of yes. So I turn to the door expecting him to come after me and run outside. Nope he just sat there. Well I had stopped at McDonalds for breakfast and had some hash browns which Lightning loves. As soon as he saw them he got up and came over to me. At this time I could see there was something wrong with him. His back end didn't seem to want to do what he wanted it to do or he was in pain. Well to make a long day a shorter story, he's done something to one of the disks in his back. Looking at the x-ray it doesn't look all that bad and may be fixed with predisone within a week or two.
The vet said they normal keep dogs there while they recover from something like this, but since he hates vets and needs to be muzzled just for them to touch him it was up to me. Well I brought him home and now I think it may have been best for both of us if I left him there for the week or so. I'm going to call in the morning and see if they have room for him. He wants so much to be near me at all times that if I get up to answer the phone or respond to a trip coming in on the computer he get's up to follow me. If I'm not with him he will just mope around and won't try to chase me down and may help him heal faster. I feel so bad for him and we are both so stressed. I have to keep telling him, no, stay, lay down, and he's not used to me telling him to stay when he's trying to be near me. I think it's hurting his feelings.
I finally gave in to Lightning and picked him up to put him on the couch next to me. Zach had Whiskers out and we got a few cute pics of them together. Whiskers has not hissed or spit at Lightning at all today and I can see that made him happy. He loves cats but for some reason they don't usually want to play with him. I think they will be good friends.
