Today we were cleaning cages and feeding and got to our Patternless' cage Patty who we recently got from a friend(he got her from Petco). When we got her, we noticed at the tip of her tail it was a little brighter than the rest and thought nothing of it. When we checked her today, it looked as if the tip of her tail was burnt. We checked the temps and her tank was at 90 and her belly and all of her feet look normal. While we changed out her paper towel, she began to shake as she'd walk. I am also including pictures. In the pictures, there is shed on her arm and on two toes, we got that off. If I am diagnosing this wrong please let me know. Also, how should I go about treating the problem?

Thanks,
Kyle Johnson

It looks like some shed was stuck on the tip of the tail. It can be easy to miss with their tails being so white. At this point there is nothing you can do. The black part should fall off soon. Just watch that the rest of the tail doesn't get infected.

The shaking while walking indicates a calcium inbalance. You should make sure to give her plenty of calcium, and extra bit of calcium + D3 for awhile should help.

Thank you very much for the quick reply! We'll be upping the calcium dustings. Is there any precautions I can take so the rest doesn't get infected?

THat to me looks like a burn not a shed problem. What type of heat are you using Heat tape or cable? Cable can cause minor burns if the leo is in one spot over the cabel for a prolonged period of time.

Hey Pat,

We're using 4" FlexWatt.

You keep a little dish of calcium powder in her tank at all times right?

I'm no expert...but that looks like a burn to me too

Hope she heals with no problems

Yes we do. Thank you for your concern... speaking of calcium, I got her to lick some off her nose today.

It is belly heat, directly underneath the tub. We are using the Alife on/off thermostats.

It is weird, none of the other geckos on the same row show any signs of it.

Here's some pics of one of my girls awhile back that had stuck shed on her tail ... I caught it in time and was able to save the tip of her tail, but it was a serious pain to get off! This picture was taken after I got the shed off...it was fairly red beforehand. You can put some neosporin on it (without painkiller) to ward off infection.
