Hey everyone! Matt and I would like to set up a Viv for some pygmy chams. We have seen some and they seem like the most begginner of all of the chameleons. We have a 40 gallon tall tank we would like to convert into a viv for them. We need some basic knowledge on how to keep them and some tips on the viv. We are thinking about doing a cork background and using the all-so-popular mini Hybiscus to put into the equation. Lighting, feeding, and any other tips would help us greatly! Thanks!

And if it's any help, we are looking into the brookesia.

Hey Matt and Mallorie, I think MiamiMike would probably be a great help, he breeds Chameleons, I don't think he breeds that one, but I am sure the care is pretty much the same. Hope that helps.

Hi guys....
I dont have any "personal" experience with keeping pygmies but I can tell you that they are very tricky from what I have heard. They are cute and very interesting for sure.....one problem is that there are very very few breeders of these right now so you would most likely be getting wild caught animals.....which are typically in need of a lot of extra TLC when you first get them and usually a little older specimens and pygmies only live about two years from what I have heard so you probably wont have them too long unfortunately....in fact you might be giving the little guys exactly the care they need and they may expire of old age and you could think you did something wrong. Kammerflage Kreations has a book available on these small chameleons that you may find interersting to read before you get into them. Just my opinion, but a vieled chameleon may be a better choice as a first chameleon...I am kind of biased towards the panthers....but they are a little more of an investment.....

We've tried to keep WC pygmies in the past with no luck. They are very fragile. Like Mike suggested, I would consider something else. We had a 3 legged Senegal that was one of the coolest pets we've ever owned.

I had a one too, whether or not it was WC or not was undetermined, but it absolutely refused to eat for me at all. I tried everything from pinheads to fruitflies to various moths. Nothing he would not eat at all. And sadly he did not make it...
