Now what do I do?

Well, I had another thread going on, but thought I should quickly ask in a new thread what to do...

I got my little guy from a pet store about 3-4 weeks ago. He seemed to have become ill about 1 1/2 weeks ago. Lethargic, not eating, etc.

I changed his set up, removed the sand, gave him a second hide, dialed in the temp, but he is just seemingly going downhill. He is almost ALWAYS laying down with his eyes shut.. Sometimes I actually think he is dead by the way he drags his limbs behind him when he is laying down. It is getting heartbreaking to see him like this, and I am not sure what I should be doing anymore. I finally got the temp in the tank to stay in at a steady 92-95 on the hot side, and closer to room temp on the cool side.

He has not eaten in about 10 days. Has not gone to the bathroom in as many. Does not drink water. His tail is getting thinner and thinner.

He was a b-day gift for my son, so it makes it that much tougher. I am just not sure what to do anymore. Is there anything else I can do to try to get him to turn around?

Anyone had an experience like this and seen the little guy come around?

I have not done that, my local vet does not work on Reptiles....

Can it still be done even if he had no "fecal" to examine? He has not eaten in over 2 weeks

there will need to be a fresh stool to do a fecal. i suggest looking up "marcia's slurry" on the forum and start him on that. it has been known to give very sick leos a boost, and if he is not eating at all it will help a lot for putting nutrients into his body, and you might be able to get a stool from that, then take it to the vet.

If he is dehydrated maybe you could give him a warm soak. How old is he? A vet could do some things for him that you can't do so if you could get him to a vet that would be great! I hope for the best.

They make have kept him on sand and he is impacted, try soaking him.

Are you using an under the tank heater, or lights?

I would also suggest upping all the temps in the tank. The air temp in the tank should be about 80, and the hot spot can be higher than 95 by a few degrees. Sometimes ill geckos need more heat to help them fight whatever it is they are fighting.

Are there any urates in the cage?

Most Leo's do lay around with their eyes closed and their legs sprawled out behind them, that's mines favorite belly heat soaking position.

Call your local vet and ask for a referral for a vet that will see a gecko. Be aware that sometimes, because of how they are bred, shipped and kept, a gecko bought from a pet store may just not make it. I'm hoping for the best for this little guy. If he does not make it, please consider trying again by getting a gecko from a reputable breeder. They really can be great pets for adults and kids.

Ugh. I am sorry. I agree with the soaking and I would make some slurry and try to feed it. You might give Reptaid a try....if it is worms or something it would help with that.
