From the looks of it the state's wanting to establish an extensive permit system along with a lot of regulations in order to keep exotics and what not... Read this proposal throughly too because there's a lot of really important stuff that's gonna greatly affect people who keep hots in the State of Ohio.. so start writing and organizing an effort to keep this bill from going forward. and post this info in as many herp sites as you can! The more people are aware the better the response.

Ok, that's a long read and my eyes are not wanting to work right. Can anyone tell me if there is anything in there about geckos? I skimmed it but didn't notice anything.

I would also like to know of any organization or something fighting this so I can post links on my website. It doesn't matter if it effects me or not, I don't like the way this is written : (B) If a person is convicted of or pleads guilty to a violation of this chapter, the court may order the dangerous wild animal or exotic animal that is the subject of the violation to be euthanized by a veterinarian or an appropriate animal control authority. WTF

This is my taxes hard at work. What a joke. Taxes in this state are very high and I want my money's worth! Not spent on BS like this. I know they think or are trying to make the people think that it's for either the safty of the animals or humans around such animals, but this state has been at this crap too long. I need to move back to FL.

I didn't see anything about leos....for once a bill actually spelled out the animals that were restricted, rather than just saying "exotic animals". There are some in there like boids that reach 8 or more feet, iguanas, certain monitors, HOTs.

Yeah I looked it over again today, and didn't see anything either. But knowing this state only the word exotic would be enough for them to make it harder on gecko people.

i had to fill out an 'exotic animal' sheet when i got cracker.
i just had to fill in the scientific name and "i have read the fallowing regulations." type of thing. no tax. but still!

Was this at a pet store? I contacted the OH DNR before I got my second leo about breeding and selling, they said they hand no regulations but to contact the gov. DNR to make sure they didn't There is no need for any special lic or regulations, for leos. Now my RESs was another story, which I didn't know when I bought them. Now why doesn't the pet store tell you these things.

Some pet stores require you to sign something just to make sure you understand their health guarantee and care for your new animal, and it's not really required by the state.

In New Jersey you must have a permit for most exotic animals. It is 10 dollars a year, but it covers all of your exotics. You update it every year when it is time to renew it. So, if you buy more geckos you don't have to change your permit everytime, just keep records of when you got them and update the permit when its time. Now thats just for keeping exotics.

To breed and sell any animals you have to have an animal dealer permit.
They will come and inspect the animals and if everything looks good you will be aloud to sell. You also have to have a phone number and address for your exotic vet and are required to have a vet check all animals, I think every few months. The animal dealer permit is 100 dollars a year. I have not got it yet but I have to soon so I can sell babies next year.

I don't think this is a bad thing. It stops back yard breeding and bad care.

I live in NJ and there are no laws like that....
