Alright, so a few of you are familiar with my situation. I bought 3 geckos as a group deal (2 females, 1 male) from a kid that was moving. Since he's moved, all his contact information does not work anymore, not even email.

About 2-3 weeks after I got the geckos, this female laid a clutch:

Only one egg hatched, and it gave me this little mack beauty:

Now here's my dilemma...the male I've got, I've been told could not be the father:

However here is my question: Is it possible that my female or male is a mack snow tremper? Would that not give me a mack like hatched?

What would be the best way to go about proving the two parents out? I know at this point I'll never hear from the breeder, so I think the right thing to do would be to test breed to find out exactly what I'm working with. It's the longer way, but my only choice at this point unfortunately.

I'm sorry for all the questions, but I figure I need to learn at some point.

Unless you have an extremely dark tremper (which can happen), or one of those geckos is another type of albino (although they look like Trempers to me) the male you have cannot be the father, because all offspring of those 2 would be albino. The simplest explanation is that the father is a Mack Snow (or that you have a baby with very little yellow --I"ve hatched non-Mack Snow babies that looked a lot like a snow and ended up being a very light pastel.

To be sure, the easiest thing to do is to breed these 2 to each other next season and see what you get; you should get all albinos. If you get geckos that are not albino, you can assume that you have 2 different types of albino.

The other choice is to breed each to another gecko with no Mack snow and see what you get.

Good luck,

Aliza

Ok that does make sense. I'm almost fairly positive that the female is gravid again, so if this clutch is fertil, that will answer that.

The other male I was contemplating buying from the guy was a Murphy Patternless if I'm not mistaken, and he had one other Giant...I believe a Blizzard? I'm not positive on the last. I just wish the kid would get back to me...then I wouldn't have to play these guessing and test breeding games :main_no:

I have hatched non mack animals that look similiar, so that may be the product of 2 albino strains mating . That makes the most sense from those images to me.

That is just a suggestion......

Lovely lol. Thanks for the input Paul. So how can I go about finding out exactly what I have? What sort of test breeding would I need to do?

breed each parent to a tremper albino and the first no albino to hatch make the parent not a tremper.... if indeed both are the parents of the hatchling and that hatchling isn't from a mystery parent.
