now that we have two different strains of amel in the cb fatty population, it might help to have a distinct name for the first strain.

obviously urban's "Caramel Albino" is easy to tell from the other by its name, but what do we call the first strain to keep things simple and clear?

i found this which might offer an easy solution.

its the earliest reference to an amel african fat tail gecko i can find.

as such, i suggest calling the first amel strain the "stephens amel", named after the author and original breeder. It seems simple, fair, and helps capture a little part of aft history.

what do you all think? does anybody know an earlier breeder of the amel aft?

Amel FTs

Most of the ones in the US are descendant from 1 male that Bill Bryant got from the Kick Bros through Hamper 96-97.

There is a group that Tim Tyle/Bob Clark have from the 80's or early 90's. There were babies sold 6-7 years ago buy Tytle.

That's all I know

mo, I ve got to agree with them, there s no point in naming it something different, craig did because the "carmel" is different as for where they came from, I know(I saw with my own eyes) the 1st wild caught male that came in, and it was 91 or 92. not 100% but I think it may ve been DNJ who had it. I ll check with hamper but dont think he had anything to do with it,his wife was doing alot with leos but dont think they ever did fatties, but not 100% on that LOL

and yes Im that old and been doing this that long LOL ;)

I don't think that Robbie ever worked with fatties. The male I was referring to came from the Kick bros. They were breeding them at the time and males were in short supply. I don't know where the kicks amels came from. The last year EXPO was in Orlando(2000) GG had a table full and they were way to cheap. A Lot of them were FUGLY Albey will remember I think he got a male that year.
The DNJ(THe Gormans right) animals were produce from 2 WC animals. That was long ago(97ish).

Were Mark Leshock fits in I don't . Nick do you?

GG???? golden gecko? if you were refering to them, mark is one of my closest friends and the group your talking about is actually where the white socks came from.

yeah I beleive it was the gormans. I guess I may ve gone back a bit to far, my mind is nt all there LOL but the male Im talking about was long b4 the end of the expo being in orlando.

mark l. he was resposible for the 1st line bred tang normal aka sunburst! I do beleive he was friends with DNJ and some how was connected to the original group.

Sorry

GG was supose to be gormet rodent/ Bill Bryant. Mark is a cool dude.

Nick have you ever heard of anyone breeding Amel and producing normals?

The whole white footed thing is in kind of weird. Doug Barr had some that were co-doms. Lizards aren't like snake and all the traits don't manifest themselves the same.

I do remember DNJ having a line of albinos in late 90'ies, but interesting enough, I also remember them having a line super-melanistic specimens (think they called them batman?) which were all black. I regret not having saved the pics from their website, as back then, I was drooling all over, and actually wouldn't mind doing it again ;)

As to the leschock specimens, the european breeders who claim to have leucisitic albinos claim they are descendants of the leshock line and do emphasize their origin.
