it's not like everyone on this forum is getting commisions from uth manufacturers for trying to convince you to use one, people are telling you to get one because it's better for your gecko than a heat lamp. they cost like $10 so it's not exactly going to break the bank, either.

HM. yeah .

by the way is a 100 W Red Infrared TOO HOT??? I read that on a different site, and even though my thermometer is close to the ground it is not directly on the ground as you can see in the pictures..

MAYBE HE IS BURNING UP, and He is hiding away!! AHh. confusing.

anyways, what brand UTH do you use?

Is Zoo-Med Good??

Dont want to be rude but in the last 30 posts ppl tell you to replace the bulb with UTH and you keep asking about the bulb... so save yourself time and your reptile the stress and buy a UTH (like others said, its about 10$) i use ZooMed as well and im very happy with it ad so is my gecko.
this post was not meant to offend you by any way just to make you understand that we care about your reptile health.
have a great day

P.S- if you got the UTH already see this post as cacelled :)

OK picked up a UTH. I am using the 50 W Night Glo as a supplement as well on his hot side. he is still not very active? and is always resting on the cool side.

He ate a fair amount of his meal worms though..!

Has he gone to the bathroom lately? The light really isn't neccessary(sp), but you obviously aren't going to get rid of it. Thats good that he ate.

Ok so you got the UTH, do you have a digital thermometer with a probe atleast? Because if you do you can see if its too hot or not and then you can buffer it with some paper towels under the repti-carpet, until you get a thermostat.

BTW cute gecko.. and for the most part don't listen to people in pet shops unless you've done your research and know what to rule out. Half the time they are their to sell a product and don't have the proper training/knowledge. Forums like this one are a much reliable source because you have long-term breeders and hobbiest that have put in the time to do research and have hands on knowledge of the subject.

Enjoy your new pal.

i went from a light to UTH and i strongly suggest it. My gecko is different, it eats more, its more active i see it more in the day time, i just think it helps them regulate their body temp. so much better. So yes they can live without one but in my opinion they are much better.

Allright. yea he is eating more etc... What do you guys think about a temp regulator thing to keep it at 89-92 all the time and not to hot?? Does anyone here have one? and does it help???

...thanks.

Are you talking about a Thermostat!? I advise you do get one, they start off at like $25. Under Tank Heaters can go past 100degress, I had an exo-terra that stayed at like 105 degrees, and YES they do work and it is advised that you get one.

I just got mine in yesterday, keeps the tank from 88-90. Consistantly over the last 24 hours, so far so good. With the rheostat I was going from ~86 at night to ~93 during the day. Maine has such huge temperature swings that I would have been constantly adjusting that thing, so Im glad I went with a thermostat:main_thumbsup:

yea i will get one soon. he is pretty active tho when I remove his hide he goes hunting.. one thing he hasn't pooped in like 5-6 days!! And a newbie question. do geckos pee?? or is it like in the poop with it all or something... I am thinking his hot side is toooo hot for him to voluntarily come out (me not taking the hide off him)....

what do you think ,e tc

Wow.....You are getting Really Good Advice.

Every one does what they want to do in the end. Sometimes its because of the $$$ to spend. Understandable. So I quit reading your posts at about page 4.....Here is what I will REPEAT as said many times in your posts.....but a little different..."When you can, Please get a uth. Plus get rid or calm down that 100 watt bulb overhead. I had 50 and 60 watt basking lights on a much larger tank (highth was taller unless you got a 15 Gal tall tank and if so it would be the same as mine, 18 ins.) and they created way too much "sun bathing" temps, without a reostat ..... If you pretend their belly is on the section under the 100 watt light......lay something on top of the probe to hold it to the flooring.
See what the temp. is then. Next the humid hide.....think of it like keeping lotion on your hands every day instead of putting it on after they start cracking. Having the humid hide in there all the time, and kept sprayed will not make the job as stressful for the gecko when it is time to shed...Take care. good luck. Happy Gecko-ing. Happy For-um-ing .....HJ
