As a nurse I was wondering how safe this is? It can be hard for the layperson (me) to tell what parasite is infecting a pet let alone if it has a bacterial infection that needs Flagyl (treats anaerobic bacteria and some parasites)

It seems a product like this could help to spawn some "super-bug" or kill many herps as they are diagnosed by amateurs and medicated with a product they are told is "safe" and "tested".

A product like this could be easily misused or overused. Does anyone have any experience with it? What are the overall feelings with a product like this?

I think there's another thread like this one...although i'm having trouble finding it. So anyway, IMO, I agree with you as far as knowing which parasite to deworm for...let alone calculating dosages. I'm sure the average person doesn't normally do the calculations that you and I do at work everyday...

And if used incorrectly, and for too long, Flagyl starts to kill the anaerobic (as you mentioned) as well as the aerobic bacteria...which isn't good.

It's not something I would recommend.

Bad, bad, bad idea! The average layperson is not going to know when to treat their animal appropriately OR how to dose them correctly. This could result in animals dying from drug toxicity, or prevention of beneficial effects of the drug.

In addition, using a constant low dose of antibiotic/antiparasitic drugs is the best way to select for resistant bacteria and parasites. If panacur and flagyl lose their teeth...:main_no:

I hope this product doesn't see widespread use. It could hurt the entire reptile community.
