In Canada, if you go to Canadian Tire (I don't know iif they have them in other countries, but check your local chain home department store, or even Walmart maybe) they sell these blue "thick" paper towels. They are a bit more expensive than regular ones but they are extra thick and soft. I put two layers down on the floor where the heat pad is to give extra cushioning for my geckos feet, since that's where he hangs out the most.
It's also a great quality paper towel overall, ie. for cleaning, etc.

I dont know if it's the same thing, but I buy something like that from the auto parts store. They are made for washing your car.

To answer the OP, no, the dye in the paper towels can not harm your leo.

I would assume that patterned paper towels are safe (non-toxic) because they are meant for human use around food. There would be no incentive for a company to ensure paper towels for your car are non-toxic, but I have no scientific data.

Well, this is sort of scientific;
I have used printed paper towels lots of times working with solvents like acetone, pet ether and methanol and non of these (very strong) solvents will make the dye bleed.
So, I dont know that they use, but it is very permenant!!
