PayPal Fees

I recently received payment via direct transfer from the other person's paypal account and an echeck, neither had fees removed when I recieved the payments. But, when I sent a payment direct from my paypal account, the recipient had fees taken out.

What is the best way to send money via paypal so that the recipient does not lose the paypal fees. I was under the impression direct payment via PayPal Balance, PayPal Instant Transfer, or PayPal eCheck eliminated paypal fees for the recipient. Whereas by PayPal Credit Card, Debit Card, or Buyer Credit had the fees associated.

When sending the money from PayPal Balance (or any of the options rather), will it matter whether you click goods, services/other, ebay items, or cash advance?

Part of doing business is PayPal and credit card fees for the seller. ANY time you purchase or sell something with PayPal or credit cards, there is a fee for the seller... there is no way around it. We might as well get used to it, because legislature is in the works for anyone that sells anything on the internet to be liable for paying taxes on the sales.

Every single time I've received money through PayPal I've had fees taken out. Here's my take on it: a) it's convenient, b) they protect the buyer and seller if all of the rules are followed, and c) it's cheaper than a credit card machine!

Well, technically it depends on what type of account you have. If you have a personal paypal account, you can receive up to $500 a month from persons paying directly (via bank account or paypal balance) without any fees being taken out. If they are paying with credit card or e-check, there's no ways of getting around the fees. If you have a premier account, you get fees taken out no matter the nature of the payment.

As Marcia said, this is part of doing business. And it depends on the seller, how they deal with the cost. Some just "chalk-it up" to doing business. Others inflate the prices of their animals slightly to compensate for this loss in profit. Yet others pass the fees onto their customers on the front-end. At the end of the day, paypal will get paid ;).

This practice is illegal, as well as against PayPal and any credit card company's policies. If a seller charges you extra fees for using your credit/debit card, or PayPal, you need to let them know it is against the law... and report them to the credit card company or PayPal if they do not cooperate.

Mel, I have given up but I just didn't understand how I received the money without the fees, and when I sent money the same way the other guy had fees removed. I do like it when I recieve money and no fees are taken though. :) Ha

Thanks Harold. I didn't think about the type of account- Personal or Premier- being the difference. With a personal account is it normal for them not to take fees with echeck?

That's good to know because I offered the guy I just sent the money to the paypal fees. I'm leaving it alone since I offered and he just agreed to it.

I agree with Marcia...it's the cost of doing business. I will actually not buy from people who charge extra because of the Paypal fees.

Alliey and I have been shopping for albino blood pythons the past few weeks. One guy had us until he said add another $34 for the paypal fees. No sale :main_thumbsdown:

and I think it is against Paypal TOS to do that...
